Happy Anniversary, Star Trek

Another year gone by, another landmark. On September 8, 1966, The Man Trap aired on NBC. And how grateful and happy we are for that!

Startrek.com has a good article about it:

Forty Years. That's a long time for one little old sci fi show to stick around, and such a fun universe created for all us fans to romp in.

Happy Birthday Trek!

Let's see now. Trek has been around for 40 years, Atragon has been simming for about 60 years... Nope, just doesn't add up.

Happy Birthday Trek! You are over the hill now!

A bit late, but happy birthday Star Trek!

Star Trek is what brought me into sci-fi. I used to think it was all disturbing, until one day I actually sat down and watched TNG with my brother. He had to explain all the technobabble to me but I was hooked by the second episode.

I fell in love with Star Trek because it made an idealized future seem like a realistic possibility. It showed me that other people are looking for some of the same changes that I am, and that they too believe it can be achieved. It could be written off as childish idealism, but even now, years later, Trek still keeps me from being cynical. That's invaluable.

A couple fun fan videos, in case I haven't posted them before. I especially like the DS9 one.
