TOS Version 2.0

Hey there,

Actually, to me, "Doomsday Machine" featured some of the best special effects of TOS. I thought the Constellation looked alright when compared to effects of the day (and in the rest of the series). "The Ultimate Computer" could use a serious upgrade. The potential was there, and in fact they were using AMT plastic models for the other ships, but it was just impossible (I believe) to get the effects realistic given what was supposedly happening. A battle sequence featuring five ships? A little much in the late 1960s. Bloody hell, it wasn't until the late 1970s that ILM made it look somewhat realistic in Star Wars.

My only real complaint about the Constellation in "The Doomsday Machine" is they never painted the model. You can tell when you look at the impulse engines. They were supposed to be black, but they weren't even painted.

And I think for "The Ultimate Computer" they were using flipped images of the Enterprise, matted four times, and not even the Ertl kit. Even just using 4 model kits would have have improved the special effects a lot.

Hey there,

A long time ago, a friend gave me a book about special effects of the shows...and I swear it mentioned they had actually used models. I'm not certain about that though....
