This is to see what race most people would want to do ina future sim. This is because the last few sims have been a race other than the Federation, and I want to see what race most people would want.

Note: This is note because of a new ship comming soon, and this isnt to be like a pition to get the next sim to be a spicific race. The decition is up the GM's.

I guess nobody likes cardassians!

Borg would be fun. We could assimilate some of the other sims.

Could we actually do a Cardassian sim? Weren't they pretty much decimated after the Dominion war, and therefore the sim would be simply trying to rebuild?

Granted, I did miss alot of the last couple of seasons, so I can't make a true judgement call.

I actually voted for other.

I did a Maquis sim several years ago and it was awesome. I know there aren't any Maquis anymore.. but the sim could take place back then.

I also did a sim one time, like 9 years ago, that was planet based. If I remember correctly (kids destroy brain cells) we had a Federation colony as well as non-Federation.

It made for an interesting sim as you could actually have more than one plot working. It does take some experienced simmers tho to keep it going as it can either get confusing or off track really easily.

And then I did a couple of sims once based on a group of covert officers. One was regular Starfleet and the other was Marines. Each was a small sim with tons of NPC's, and two of the best I ever did.

Of course.. there could always be a sim about pirates in Federation space.. :::waits for Garnoopy to hit him:::

This is a good point, but the post-Dominion War atmosphere could make an interesting backdrop for a Cardassian sim.  First, the homeworld is in disrepair and lots of Cardassians have been killed by both the Federation and the Dominion.  Second, they had just come out of an alliance with the Dominion, during which time a lot of their military officers were probably involved in even more war crimes to add on to what they had done during the occupation of Bajor.  Now, take that and put a crew of simmers on one of the first ships in their rebuilt fleet.

The disadvantage is we really don't know all that much (canon material) about Cardassian culture, technology, etc. so simmers would have to make up a lot of it along the way.  We also would have to generate a post-Dominion War political scheme, etc. for the Cardassians.

In general, I think that it's best to stick a sim where you have to worry the least about getting background details right.  (That's one good reason to put sims on ships of well-established starship classes).

My 3c...

yo i agree that the backdrop problems would make things extremely difficult and dare i say it futile. but we do know the two types of ships the cardassians use thanks to games! they are the galor and the keldon classes. the galors being puny little things, and the keldons being the bigger buggers. woohoo i just became a complete freak! give me a cookie!

We know about the existence of the classes from DS9.  (I don't have the games, so I don't know how much detail they give).  The real questions are about the details you might need to man one of them.  Even some of the starfleet ships are a bit uncertain.  There's really no certainty about how big the Defiant or Oberth classes are... and there are lots of other scaling inconsistencies (look at the Ex-Astris-Scientia site for details).  It gets worse when you get into non-Federation ships.

(Haha, I'm a bigger nerd than you, Images  :o  )

We could always try deplomicy to get ship sizes. E-mail the people at startrek.com, and see if they can give us ship size info, if you want a canon sim, for a ship with unknow info.

My stance on canon is, if you don't know it, make it up.  Use information from the show as a set of guidelines, rather than rules.

I have a Bajoran character.  A lot of him is built using info from TNG and DS9, but a lot of him I make up, staying as true as possible to the Bajoran spirit.  The spirit of each race is what's important, not the specifics.  The Cardies are a rebuilding race of once-proud warriors.  The Ferengi are greedy merchants.  The Borg are just zombies (not fun to sim, unless you like battle superiority   ).  Stay true to the spirit, use what you know, and fill in the gaps as logically as you can.  Improvising is what makes simming fun.

My vote is for a Delphin sim.

I think a Maquis sim would be interesting.  Obviously it would have to be a period-specific sim like the Hood, but that is doable.  Sure we have scant details about their organization and ships from VOY, DS9, and TNG, but we do know that many of them were once Starfleet officers and that they tend to attract Bajorans.  Presumably the rank structure and ship capabilities wouldn't be that different then the Federation, although they probably favor quick and dirty solutions over Starfleet protocols.

I was always interested in the Maquis.  I thought they had a legitimate gripe against the Federation/Cardassian treaty and I think it's too bad they didn't have their own series or a movie or something.

Well, since you already have your HyperDrive built in, you are much easier to assimilate than most. Of course, it also helps that you lack the power of "GM" and therefore cannot use actions to prevent your assimilation. And finally, I just way over analyzed your question.  :o

On topic - I agree Vanroy. I think a Marquis sim would be fun to participate in. The problem would come in with those "quick and dirty" solutions, the potential for the sim to get out of hand without as much protocal here would be pretty high. Still, if handled properly it could be a very fun sim, the Marquis are not a faction we really think about to often.

I've played two former Maquis members in my simming career.  One was completely reformed, the other turned into an NPC and tried to establish the Maquis II.  Made for some fun simming.

Of course Fred, I'm not so sure it is Earth he cares about. Seems to me it has more to do with the "space" category.  ::o:
