i hope the "young kirk and spock" movie writers haven't gotten any ideas from a certain table at the shoreleave convention...

Dear dear Cabana Boy......

If I remember, you spent way too much time being amazed by those expressions......of art?

Huff, A9....you remember them don't you?

::snickers::

Thanks Sketti for brining that back to mind...now until they have a real trailer, that's all I'm going to have in my head about this one....

Remind me to thwap you next time I see you...

<no no..must not envision the flowing locks of hair looped behind Spocks ears......>

Look what they did in Superman Returns, and other moives where they got some unknow actors.

Non, non, non monsieur... the original Enterprise was French! :P

USS Enterprise, eight ships in the United States Navy carried the name Enterprise. Six of them were commissioned and use the USS prefix.

HMS Enterprise, fourteen ships of the Royal Navy have been named Enterprise. Ten of them were commissioned and use the HMS prefix.

L'Entreprise for the French ship that was captured and became the first HMS Enterprise.

Enterprise (steamboat), a privately-owned steamboat captained by Henry Miller Shreve

Enterprise, one of the ships especially built for the upcoming China trade in the early 19th century, owned by the fur trader and multimillionaire John Jacob Astor of New York

International Enterprise sailing dinghy.

Enterprize (1829), an 1829-built schooner - Melbourne's tall ship

Enterprise (balloon), a hot air balloon used by the Union Army during the American Civil War

Enterprise, an airship used by Cecil Harvey and his party in Final Fantasy IV.

This, mind you, is not counting personal vessels named Enterprise.

And this not really being a real ship...

Fun game though.

Speaking of airships...All of the Navy's brief flirtation with dirigibles in the 20's all had USS designations: The Shenandoah, Los Angeles, Akron, and Macon. Both the Akron and Macon were designed to carry four Curtiss F9C "Sparrowhawk" biplane fighters for defense. All but the Los Angeles were lost. US Navy Blimps and Dirigibles

However, it being a gaming reference, there is some truth in that statement, Phil. But it's like saying the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701-x (x being a placeholder for the alpha portion of the hull number) isn't a realy ship either.

Okay, that image was taken from I believe an old issue of TV Guide featuring Shatner and Nimoy, and Damon's and Afflecks heads are superimposed onto the image. Quick, someone grab Sendai! :)

I'll take Matt Damon, but I will have an issue with Affleck as Spock. No offense to any Affleck fans, but I've always felt that Damon is the better actor.

For the love of god, anyone but Affleck.

That is an old publicity photo doctored up. No, I'm not old enough to remember when that photo first came out... but I do know which photo it is. While an Excellent job you can see the rank stripes on Spock's wrist and the new movie is suppose to be them at the Academy.

And no that wasn't a meteor shower. that was Roddenberry's ashes turning over in their orbital grave.

::sigh:: No one they get will be as pretty as Kirk...

I'm not going to like whoEVER they get, because the TOS timeline isn't much more than a decade after Kirk would have finished with the academy, so they shouldn't look much different at all. My artistic imagination only goes so far.

And Damon is ugly and Affleck is uglier. (I'm not too worried about this, though, because Trek loves to use unknowns. Why pay names when some untested dweeb will come in cheaper).

But... I'm glad a movie is in the works regardless.

For that matter, look at the original Superman. Christopher Reeve was an unknown before that movie.

Heck, look at Animal House also. The only big name there was Belushi.

I can't remember where I'm getting this from (probably Empire) but I think Philip Seymour Hoffman had an interest to play Bones.

Slightly weird but an odd part of me can actually imagine it working.

Whoops, discovered I was wrong...

I don't think you can compare. Animal House didn't really jump-start anyone's career except maybe Kevin Bacon, and people don't even remember that he was even in the movie. Belushi was already a known comodity by that point.

True, but so were Gene Hackman, Ned Beatty, Brando and Jackie Cooper.

And everyone seems to forget, as well, that Spielberg had a bit part in The Blues Brothers, as the clerk of the Cook County Assessor's office.

And Star Wars only jump-started Harrison Ford's career, which took off with Indiana Jones, since Tom Selleck (the original choice to play Indy) was already signed for Magnum, P.I. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were pretty much type-casted in their subsequent careers.

They were in it? Wow, I have to pay more attention to the credits.

In Superman, yes. c'mon, I mean who do you think played Lex Luthor to Reeves' Superman?

Just don't confuse the two references. Speilberg's cameo in Blues Brothers did nothing for his acting career, thank God.
