Shirai

New Kid

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm the new guy. *Bows* How can I be of service? I understand we must go through Starfleet academy. Sounds good! When can and do we start? Check the schedules?

As a background thing:

I'm a science fiction writer, among other things. I've enjoyed Star Trek since I was a kid, and finding this place was quite intriguing. See you around the Academy I suppose, and eventually (hopefully) on the bridge.

Greetings and Salutations, Shirai!

Indeed, one must go through the Academy if you want to join an Advanced Sim. The Academy is a great deal of fun, and it's a great way to meet people from many different sims. Also, if you have the time and inclination, I'd recommend reading through the various Logs, Briefs and Bios, just to give yourself a better understanding of what goes on here, and also dropping in and watching the Advanced Sims. All of the above were a great help to me (I just graduated myself). I look forward to seeing you in the Academy, cadet!

Most sincerely,

Thankyou everyone, for welcoming me.

Believe it or not, I do have a question: To what extent do we, the role players, have creative liscense? For instance, I was told I can post stories up between sessions that are related to the character, the story line, etc. To what extent do we have creative control?

I found the following resources to be quite helpful to me as I was (and still am) starting out. :P

>>Tips from the Moose

>>STSF Rules

>>A good log resource from the Challenger

Feel free to ask more questions!

Welcome to the site.

You can't go wrong if you attend the Redstar Nightclub on Saturday night. Officers and cadets from all over the fleet gather together for IC chat. Chat with Vulcans, warm your toes in the jacuzzi, order a good pint of ale, watch a championship title fight (cough current title holder cough) and drool over the orion woman who attends from time to time. :P

Redstar. Be there or be on the Gorn Menu.

Shirai,

It all comes down to common sense, as I've found out as a player (anyone feel free to add). Check out a few of the awesome logs that players have written, and you'll see what I mean.

You can be as creative as you like with your character, just keep the logs you write believable, and in most cases, in keeping with your department. Don't write a log about that cascade energy effect destroying the one nacelle, especially if there is no good reason, and you are not an engineer. Now, if you are one of the engineers? And that weeks sim involved a ship battle? Okay, then yes, the nacelle could be acting funky due to that recent battle, and you can do a log about your character repairing it.

And just be prepared for consequences depending on log subject matter and how *creative* you get. I did a log with my one character getting into a brawl on a starbase due to some underlying tension in the sector from a story arc the Agincourt was completing (with a renegade terrorist group). Guess what? Had a nice little chat with my chief over the incident next sim. :P

Kansas >^..^<

Also might I add, while you are welcome to use NPCs (Non-Player Characters) to help move your plot along, don't use actual players' characters without their permission. Or better yet, get in contact with others on your ship and collaborate with them for a joint log i.e. a log written by more than one person. Other than that, it's basically just as Kansas said. Goodluck.

ROFL...She really does dislike me doesn't she :D  :P

It isn't personal. She is just terribly insecure about her ability to attract males, and has a habit of resorting to violence when trying to compete with more attractive women. :)
