This has probably been done before but I did a quick search and didn't come up with anything. If it's been done recently, I apologize!

So where do you like to sim the most? If you have multiple characters, do you tend towards the same departments? Is there one you absolutely refuse to do? Why?

I tend towards engineering myself. I've tried Ops and while it was fun, I wasn't really terrific at it. Tactical's another favourite, and Science is probably the one I'm the least inclined towards.

My three characters in advanced sims are in medical. It's the department I feel most comfortable in because I know most about it. In the Academy my usual request is 'anything but engineering'. The reason is that I haven't seen a single Star Trek episode in English, yet and my knowledge of vocabulary related to engineering and technology does not expand beyond 21st century computers and the basic stuff. (I mean really basic) It's just too tedious to look up every second expression I need in a dictionary while trying to sim.

It's also fun playing bridge positions. You usually know what's going and and you get to interact with a lot of people.

I started in medical, so as my first simming post, it holds a special spot.

Currently, both characters are in security, and I *really* enjoy simming in the security postings. Found my simmer calling you could say. :D

One posting that makes me wonkers? Oh yeah - Sciences. Honestly, I will do it, but I really don't enjoy it. Not sure why, considering I am okay with simming in medical, and thats a section of the Trek sciences.

Just like Mr Lepage, I request 'anything except engineering'. I just can't get my head around ODN relays or whatever.

Medical is always my favourite. It's the area I'm most comfortable with and am happy with a lot of the terminology. Likewise I don't mind Science (I graduated as Science Officer in the Academy sims) or, failing those, security. I will do Bridge positions, but aren't too thrilled about them, basically because there's not enough walking around to do. I like walking. :D

Well, so far my six :: counts on fingers to make sure :: Academy sims have all been science except for one, where I was CMO. I really liked being in medical that day. I guess it's my Knight In Shining Armor Complex. Anyway, I'm hoping to try out some others, see which shoe fits the best.

Oh, I forgot to mention this... I graduated playing AENG. ::shrugs:: Maybe I'm not as bad at it as I think.

Currently I'm the Tactical officer on the Arcadia, though I started out in Science, then went to Helm, followed by a stint in SOCOM (Special Operations Command) while I was in Iraq. Another character I ran also started in Science, moved to the Brig, then Security, then Tactical, then SOCOM as well. I guess it runs in the family.

For the Academies, I as A9 for a "murder and mayhem" post-- CMO, any station on the bridge, CENG, and occasionally Counselor, when everything else is taken.

Hmm, definitely Science, though I like OPS very much, too. Command posts like MXO in the academy are always fun, though it can be a little bit stressful to manage everyone. :D

Medical is another fun post, a little more interactive than Science, but in the same vein. In general, I tend to play my characters a little too snarky to be good doctors, but I enjoy playing the post.

I've only dabbled at Security and Tactical, and it's something I'd like to work on a bit, since I'm still hazy on whether or not the shields go up at Yellow Alert... :D

Engineering is fun, though I'm admittedly awful at it. I don't mind the character interaction, and I always like the "My ship" attitude that engineers can have.

I'll also admit that I absolutely adore playing guest characters, be they villains, diplomats, or anything else that doesn't generally fit in on a Starfleet vessel. My vice...

Definitely try 'em all out. I thought I knew what I liked and then someone stuck me in engineering for a second time. It turned out to be my favourite. The academy's a great place to try everything before you graduate and request a posting.

You, snarky? ::shocked:: :D

I've played every post, including communications officer, marine K-9 specilist, and resident stow-a-way. I've been head of each department, Second officer, XO, and CO. My most fond memories are of simming on Aegis and being given command of one of the support ships. Commanding a Bird of Prey on the edge of a time eating vortex of doom... no other rush like it! And, in that situation I got to command but didn't have to host. That's why I loved being Second Officer.

Security, never will ever change, even if you offer me the placement of commander of an entire fleet.

I've always said there's something special about a Bird of Prey. It's like the Ford Mustang of Starships; everyone wants one, even Picard.

Aegis' was great. It was a small compact foreign made vehicle called a VW (Vicious Wind). So, it sounded like we were touring the galaxy in a VolksWagon Bug! Thinking about it, we should have named the second support craft the USS Pinto. Oh well.

It really depends on who you are simming with. When the hosts let you have alot of input, then Science and bridge posts are the best. When the hosts don't then get me as far from the bridge as possible, which would be engineering and medical. Security is always a good inbetween.

I voted engineering cause there's always things to fix, even if you have to break them in the first place.

In order I'd say

Command

Medical

Bridge

Security

Science

Engineering

I CO'd/hosted a simm for awhile in another fleet and I'd have to say thats my favorite possition overall. in STSF its most likely medical.

I'm a medical type girl. But I think I tend to play my doctors a little more crazy. Fine line between genius and insanity they say. I am not a big eng fan because I have no idea what I am doing. I do like security tho cuz I tend to play those characters a bit more crazy as well. ::thinks a moment:: actually I tend to play all my charaters a little crazy than mmost. Oh well.

I'll be honest, I've always enjoyed Medical. I started out with STSF in engineering, and I did enjoy it (hey, who doesn't like to blow things up?), but when I joined the medical department a few years ago on Manticore, I absolutely loved it. You just get to associate with so many different people when you're in medical, because so many people come in and out of sickbay on a regular basis. I've enjoyed it. Security is also nice because you get to move around the ship all the time, which also allows you to associate with more people.

Personally, when I was in Engineering, I felt my geekiness meant I had to stay between my quarters and Main Eng. (Not true, BTW.) Quite honestly, every position I play has its positives and negatives. I enjoy them all (well, except Helm, because I always found it boring).

Well, after reading the title I was going to say STSF.com...

But in regards to positions, in the academies I'll do any post, but I enjoy security the most. Mostly becuase it lacks technobabble.

Cool post. All of my characters have been Engineers. Every CO needs a real solid Engineer. As an Engineer, the main challenge is not technobabble, it's to be convincing. Anyone can garble their words and sound like and Engineer, but can you garble your words and convince others that you sound intelligent? Now that's a challenge!

Anyway, command positions are also fun, but the farther you advance, the more work you can expect!

Both my characters are medical. So it's medical all the way.

My typical Academy request is "Anything but science or medical" since I really hate these and am no good at it. I enjoy CO and XO the most but obviously this doesn't happen very often. Second to these I like OPS.

In the line sims I have been HELM, OPS, CENG, a Marine, and a Fighter Pilot.

Anyone can garble their words and sound like and Engineer,

We see what you mean. :D

1. Command because you get fresher donuts and a good chair

2. Sci because you don't have to do anything

3. Med because you don't have to do much but still get to go on landing parties and can hang out on the bridge eating fresh donuts.

Positions I never take:

1. Ops because you have to pay too much attention

2. Cns because I don't care about your problems. :D

3. Eng because looking up or remembering Nerdese is way too much work

Fortunately, there's always a wide range of interests so I don't have to feel guilty about not taking certain positions, because others love them.

1. Command, with rank comes priviledge :D

2. Helm. You simply have to repeat where you're told to go. It's probably the easiest position in the Fleet.

3. Tac. Blowing stuff up is fun. :D

and 4. Fighter Pilot. Same as Tac, but you have more freedom. :D
