Welcome! Being a D&D player myself, it's not exactly the same (you don't go rolling dice to kill people, though the GM's might roll some dice :D ) But STSF is the greatest Star Trek game/sim I've ever seen! Hope you have fun! maybe I'll see you in the academy some time!

Nah, I'd be more worried about Blu's dice. Let me tell you, most of the time, the end result is never any good. Just ask Tovan. :D Anyways though, welcome to the forum. :D

Welcome to STSF! Dont worry about these guys. You should only die by random chance in the academy 20 or 30 times before you graduate lol.

He used to be on the Aegis. I remember him there when I SG'ed there a few years ago. ::looks at the souvineer Aegic pic of him in da brig:: Ahh, memories... :D

The talent for writing pages and pages of text to express a point or two never ceases to amaze me.

Considering the lack of science officers, mystics, diplomats, mercenaries and rogues like myself it would seem a naturally punishing experience. I mean who's there to do the dirty work? Far be it from me to be critical, but everyone knows Aegis makes the perfect Cardassian military installation.

Hiya Vatric: Then again, isn't that what the players *do* - flesh out the current mission from thier own (character) perspective? Very much like reading an on-going series of mini books from the players aimed at thier sim storyline.

Pages and pages of text about a point? - ROFL! I would *never* do this. :D

Okay, back on topic - Hello and Welcome Cadet Riko. D&D player? Very cool. D&D introduced me to role play table top gaming many moons ago. STSF is that next level, and a great place to RPG and have fun !

Muhahaha......who do you think gave most of the GM's their sets of die? (Yes, die is plural of dice, which means just one).

I thought it was the other way around. Anyway dice can be singular and plural. Die is dated and usually only used in idiomatic expressions such as: The die is cast.

Ah, yes. I remember my AD&D days with fondness. Running a Solamnic Knight on Toril, a lawful good elven cleric of Corellon Larethan, a true Neutral Scots fighter/assassin who worshipped Death (and a decent wee bit o' something). It saved my sanity many times while up in Iceland in my old Air Force days.

Sorry Blu, but Nick is right. "Die" is singular. "Dice" is the plural. As seen in the following except, with citation.

A die (Old French de, from Latin datum "something given or played" [1]) is a small polyhedral object, usually cubical, used for generating random numbers. This makes dice suitable as gambling devices, especially for craps or sic bo, or used in recreational non-gambling games, especially board games.

Traditionally, a die is seldom seen alone, and is rather one of a pair of identical dice that are sized to be comfortably rolled or thrown, together, from a user's hand. The singular word "die" is therefore rare, and treating "dice" as interchangeably singular or plural is not uncommon (though still incorrect); the re-pluralized form "dices" is found sometimes

And You should only die by a definite set of events 100 to an infinite amount of times. :D random chance deaths are rare... make that occasional. Your death is destined most of the time, especially if you're in NDak's "Death and Destruction" sim :D
