"I got got got no time...i got got....."

30 posts in this topic

Hi all,

Its likely that the answer to this question will not be found...but the non-existence of this answer is something i've always found frustrating and confusing...if we could answer it, it might help all of our logging and bio-ing and whatsuch!

"What is the current year in the ST universe?"

I have it right now at 2380...but i'm sure that's up for debate. Perhaps we could decide, at least for the STSF community, on a specific year, and keep track of it. Maybe not. Well, here you go, have at 'er, start deliberating!

note: Agincourt crew are disqualified from the discussion due to the UBERconfusing nature of their own timeline.

note: Just kidding about Agincourt folk, please join in.

-Sam

"UBERconfusing?" What's so confusing -- in 2379 Shinzon killed off most of the Senate, plunging the Romulan Empire into years of chaos, and eventually a war the Federation and Klingons took part in. In '95 a peace treaty was signed between all major parties. And now it's '97.

July 23, 2397, in fact. As of this coming Wednesday. (Right now it's somewhere between July 9 and July 23, depending on who's writing a log when.)

really? what/who has it all figured out based on what and where-can-i-find-it?

well as much as i would have enjoyed the ensuing argument...i also enjoy the accuracy! thanks for your contribution Col. Harper

oh, i was mistaken, thats just agincourt time (see why i jokingly banned you folks?) so the offer is still open to pinpoint current trek time

personally, I have no clue. what i've done for my logs is just a way i've seen used by others, where you take the current date mm/dd/yy and switch around so it becomes yymm.dd. for example, today's date, 07/01/06, turns into 0607.01

probably not anywhere near accurate for a timeline, but it works for me.

That's the only way I have ever been explained to as how to do it, and yes it works nicely, however I don't think it corrisponds very well with the time line on the actual shows.

Anything that acknowledges Nemesis canon would have to be at least 2379. I don't think anyone's gone very far past that (except us), so '79-'82, most likely.

What years are Hood and Challenger?

According to the Hood website, it is currently set in the year 2269. Though the year varies in cycles from 2266-9, so the sim doesn't go into the re-fit era with those nasty TOS-movie era uniforms.

Don't tell me you're still clinging on to that old Gregorian calendar? Answering questions is just so medieval.

Time is relative! Time is an illusion!

Be that as it may be, Jarden, but time is what keeps everything from happening all at once.

And actually, we not trying to figure out the old Gregorian calender, we're trying to figure out with the new Gregorian calender.

Ok, just confirming. The Hood is indeed set in the year 2269 as seen from the screen-shot I took from the Hood website. Click on the image to enlarge

"Timeline? This is no time to talk about time. We don't have the time!"

"You're Blended Alright..."

Thanks for the confirmation, Vatric

What year did Nemesis come out? 2003, wasn't it? If that was 2379, then it'd be three years after that, so like 2382 or so.

Yes, I realize that in sim time doesn't always follow the calendar (look at Agincourt!--no offense, Harper), but from when Next Gen, V'ger and DS9 were on, one year in shows meant one year in 'real time'... seems a decent track to follow... now if only they didn't run a calendar year from Sept - May... (following the TV season cycle)

Oh and by the way, this compulsive weenie would like to give you a little help with that line from Deanna:

"Timeline? This is no time to talk about time. We don't have the time!"

Hehehe, I love that line. Apparently (and I don't remember this) I once said that to someone after I had had a few too many drinks. They didn’t really get it although they said I thought it was funny. But anyway I digress from this thread…what was the question again?

porter that's hilarious that you actually said that line in your own blended state!! we were talking about the current year in trek.

Yes I did Sam, and I tried the hair flip. Lets just say when you are already off balance don't try a hair flip. Nothing like falling in a bar while quoting ST. To this day a handful of my friend who were there won't let me live it down.

Oh and I have no idea what the date is.

Well, we were trying to make one year = one sim year, but.... barring skipping several months between sims, that just didn't work.

It all evens out if you consider time dialation while at high impulse, warp field oddities, and the random magic edit to the proper point in the story.

Yes Harper, that plan fell through quite well. We've been simming what, 13-14 months and we've only gotten like four months done in sim

Thats what you get for having us move Pi seconds between sims.

Now I don't feel so bad that we've moved only a few hours in four weeks of sims.
