"Dirty Job"

June 30, 2006

Sky Harbor Aegis

“Dirty Job”

Ensign JoNs walked along the promenade, doing her patrol rounds and checking in with the various shopkeepers. They made small talk, and then she would move on, but the Caitians thoughts kept wandering back to the Rixian refugee that had arrived at the station.

She used the term refugee based on the manner in which the man had arrived on the Aegis’s doorstep, and the mystery surrounding the arrival. His damaged ship barely floated into sensor range, with fighters hot on his tail. Then, the security escorts (JoNs included) and the medical personnel that had the man dumped in their laps had all been ordered by Captain Ayers to keep quiet on the matter.

The command staff, as always, and per their rights, had kept most of the details to themselves. But, Left Ear had taken a wild personal guess – that the Rixian had probably requested asylum on Sky Harbor Aegis.

She sidestepped a group of shoppers, and her thoughts turned much darker.

Asylum. The word was misleading, such a simple word. It was a dirty job to undertake, because it always meant being dragged into someone else’s problems.

Why? Because those beings that offered and gave the asylum generally became the new target of any hostilities and repercussions.

And Starfleet, particularly the Aegis, was a very big target.

Ensign M’Vess Vacer “Left Ear” JoN’s

Assistant Security Officer.
