"The Command Chair"

June 25, 2006 (2397)

USS Agincourt NCC-81762

“The Command Chair”

Lieutenant JoNs stalked the outer perimeter of the main bridge, deep in thoughts of self recrimination.

“Captain, your scent has changed…are you feeling alright?”

What in the bling be danged blue blazes was I thinking!

I must have gotten knocked around one to many times in the marine training exercises, jolted a few brain cells, and taken leave of my senses for a few minutes. Yes, that is logical.

It was a biological fact – if a being had a strong enough reaction or mood shift, a Caitian may be able to pick up on the change in scent. It did not always happen, and also depended on species.

Conversely, she had just picked up on the physical mannerisms of the Captain like any security officer would have.

Regardless, I should never have asked the question. Rather, I should not have phrased the question using the scent change. Hello, I am Kansas JoNs, Bloodhound at Large. Phhhffft.

During her fourth stalking pass around the bridge, the crewmembers on duty had started to notice. Kansas forced herself to stay in one spot. The other pacing factor was the fact that she *had* the bridge. This occurrence was rare, and the last time she had been left in charge, she had also avoided The Chair.

You know what? If you keep second guessing and mentally beating yourself up, you’re going to give yourself an ulcer by forty.

Within one point five seconds, a decisive tactical decision was made. The Caitian strode with confidence and purpose toward the command chair.

“Computer, transfer all tactical readings and scanning functions to the main viewer, half screen usage, right. Vorona six, real time image, half screen usage, left. Continual monitoring of Vorona 6 away team and sector scans for any cloaked ships. Comm open, Internal 2, for any incoming updates from medical, engineering or sciences regarding the Vorona communications relay wreckage and the damaged freighter previously investigated. Comm open, Incoming 1, for any updates from the away team. Any scan results copy and send to tactical backup program JoNs Omega 13.”

She settled down with one fluid motion in the command chair, crossed her legs and fixed an intense feline gaze on the main viewer.

A low chorus of chuckles accompanied by polite golf clapping sounded across the bridge. Kansas did not mind; she worked closely with the alpha shift bridge team, knew they were very much a competent group, and so allowed the few seconds of silliness.

A good natured smirk lightened her furred features. “Alright…are we all done teasing the El Tee now? Go make yourselves useful and scan things.” She waved a clawed paw in mock-imperious dismissal, engendering another low wave of chuckling as everyone re-busied themselves at the stations.

Keeping one eye on the main bridge viewer, she began to peruse the functions of the Captain’s command chair functions.

“Ooooo…it has heating and cooling settings.,,”

Lt. M’rrett Sh’aow “Kansas” JoNs

Chief Tactical – Assistant Security Officer

The good captain has experience with that kind of problem, as you can well guess.
