A Fathers Day To Remember

A Father’s Day to Remember

A Log By Ensign David Johnson

Stardate: (238006.19)

David was on his last day of Brig confinement. In a few hours he would be free even though Lt Cmdr Jax still had a week to go on her sentence, something he still felt badly about. He sat holding a padd which he had requested several days earlier in order to compose a letter to his father. He hadn’t gotten up the courage to do it yet but, this was his last day of confinement and it was ironically enough Fathers Day. He decided he had put it off long enough. He put the padd down, pushed the record panel and started his letter

“Dear Dad. Well my first week on the ship has gone almost as expected. I met with my superiors, introduced myself to most of the people I am going to want to get to know, got a physical; tell mom that I am in perfect health. Now for the part that was unexpected. I got thrown in the brig, yeah I know that this isn’t what you want to hear on Fathers day but I wanted to tell you how I ended up in here during my first week no less so you wouldn’t jump to conclusions.”

Over the next hour or so David proceeded to tell the story which he had already told four or five times making sure to explain every detail so both his father and his mother would understand and maybe just maybe they wouldn’t disown him. After he finished he decided it was important to say something at the end, almost as an afterthought. He paused the recording so he could think. As he sat on the cold brig bench looking at the new coat of paint and finish that he had put on the brig walls. After about 15 minutes of thinking he un-paused the recording and resumed

“I hope that now that you have heard the story you will realize what I did why I did and that you probably would have done the same thing in you’re situation. You once told me that the Captain of the Merrimack almost threw you off the ship because you directly questioned his orders based on the fact that they were a violation of the orders he had received from Starfleet command and that in the end you we’re right. I thought that what I was doing was the right thing and you have always told me that I should do the right thing, just like Grandpa always did. I am going to put the incident behind me and move on with my career but I have learned some valuable lessons which I am sure will help me in the future something else you have always told me to do, and since its Fathers day I figured I would follow you’re advice, just as I always have tried to do. Happy Father’s Day"

You’re Loving Son,

David

David picked up the padd and looked it over. He didn’t know what his father was going to think of it, whether he would even read the whole thing but he did know that somehow someway his father would forgive him for his error and perhaps sympathize with what had happened. It was after all Father’s day and it was one that he knew both of them would certainly never going to forget
