Garnoopy

"Wounds"

GARNOOPY

Chief Engineering Officer

USS Manticore, NCC-5852

Stardate 50606.04

"WOUNDS"

The padd was tossed onto a coffee table that Garnoopy had never seen before in his life. It was a standard Starfleet issue, located in guest quarters on whatever bloody station floating in space they were currently located in. He sighed, looking at the coffee table, wondering why he was still here, why he didn't have anything to do.

With no ship Garnoopy had nothing. No engineering to maintain, nothing to keep from falling apart, nothing to keep his focus from the turbulent sent of waters that crashed their way through him like the white water rapids people dared to sail. That turbulent water he sailed every day, attempting to avoid the rocks, avoid crashing the stable little raft he sat in.

Ethics are considered a set of moral beliefs that define a person as to their judgment. Whether something is wrong or right, good or bad, depends on who you are, your past, the events that make up your life and whether you care to admit it, how much the end result effects your life in itself. Garnoopy had been avoiding the ethical dilemmas that had occurred onboard the Manticore for some time. Diving deeper into engineering, deeper into the things that didn't require an ethical decision. They simply needed to be fixed.

No engine, now the only things left to deal with were those that he had set aside. Atragon, a man he still didn't trust completely even after three years. Sovak, a Vulcan who had loyalties to the Admiral, Farrington, a woman who was married to him. It was a triangle where things would happen without question. Limitless boundaries lay within their grasp and control with a ship as powerful as the Manticore once was.

Perhaps that counsel had known that and intended to eliminate this problem. How ridiculous. Most games of chess end with a handshake, this one would have ended with the blood of hundreds. Yet Garnoopy had only been concerned with the warp core. The dilithium matrix. The things he could control, he could manage.

What now he wondered. With no ship, nothing to be an engineer onboard, he had nothing to manage. Precip was already abandoning the ship, giving up on tackling those ethical issues that now also lay in front of Garnoopy. It was like a band-aid, tearing it off would be painful, but what lay beneath could reveal even deeper wounds.

Perhaps later he thought, as he took a shot of rum. For now he was too afraid to start dealing with issues that could avoided. The water was getting more violent around him, but so far, he hadn't capsized.
