Ok, again this has probably been done before, and if it has I apologize. But if not, then hey, what you waiting for? Vote for the best live-action Star Trek pilot episode!

For me its Deep Space Nine's "Emissary", but a close second is "Broken Bow" on ENT

Farpoint = just funny to watch

Caretaker/Cage/No Man - the same

And I know you're lying if you vote for "the cage"

I choose "Where No Man Has Gone Before". It shows us a side of Jim Kirk we have never seen before, and what happens when a man thinks he's a god.

I'd have to say "Where No Man Has Gone Before", because it's Kirk at his best, with the (GIGANTIC) phaser rifle, and the scalera lenses the villian wears are just cool looking.

Plus there's the fact that the name on the tombstone is "James R. Kirk"

Yes I am a complete and total geeky fool for original Trek. lol

Don't forget that the bad guy played Poole in the movie, "2001" Oh and you didn't have McCoy for CMO and they had those cool turtleneck uniforms (very 60's) and the scanners built into gooseneck lamps on the consoles!!

I must say I enjoyed both TOS pilot episodes, and whole heartedely agree with A9 on the "effects and dress of that era",they made do without the aid

of CG or the new age big budget that permits a more abundant supply of the

extra tech goodies afforded today :P

"The Cage" is still winning.

"The Cage" was extremely controversial for two simple things-- a smart, almost Human looking alien (save the pointed ears), and a female first officer.

It wasn't until the 1990s when women were assigned to combat vessels in the US Navy.

My vote went for Enterprises "Broken Bow". Good, solid, sci fi action and plotline.

I just happened to enjoy the pilot for Enterprise more then Next Gens, DS9's and Voyagers.

The Original Series - "The Cage" and "Where No Man" - CLASSIC Trek at its best, and my favorite of the shows of course, and both pilots are very good for the time.

But Dr. McCoy's not in either of 'em, so therefore they don't get my vote. I'm just a wee bit of a McCoy nut. Just a bit. :P

::sigh:: I still love Number One in The Cage. What a loss that the execs poopoo'd her. And the Talosians *were* cool. I liked the weird little blue singing plants on the planet too.

Where No Man... was just good weird sci-fi. The eyeballs, the coldness and super-brain were just plain scary. No mini-skirts, just good creepy cold sci-fi.

Farpoint? Not too bad. Q's the bomb.

Caretaker? Stoooooopid! lol. Blow the piece of crap up and go home. I'm glad they didn't insult us further by having Voy find it's mate during the series or at the end. It's okay to make a mistake once.

Oh yeah, Emissary... Bleeeeeeeeech! Unfortunately, DS9 *did* repeat their mistakes by revising this ridiculous theme over and over and over and over again, and beat us one last time at the very end with it JUST in case we didn't hate it enough! :D

Broken bow.... crud, I really need to get those DVD's to rewatch.

Hmm, perhaps I should have been more specific.

I vote for emissarry because it sets out the theme involving the main character which spans the entire series.

Id have to say no to the cage because it doesnt really show a broad stroke for the TOS series. Then again I cant really watch whole episodes of TOS anymore because I cant stand the 60's look to everything, yeah its all they had and was top of the line at the time, but its just not enough for me.

Broken bow is sweeet because it feels like the most realistic to me regarding how it fits in to the rest of that first season.

::dies laughing at Huff::

That was the only thing I hated about DS9. If I had to Kira complain *one* more time about the Cardassians or someone lavish Sisko with some title.... :)

"The Cage" is my favorite. It was a good story, and it was actually edgy and intelligent TV (for the time). And, the technology is downright humorous. They had paper printouts coming out of line printers!

"Where no man has gone before" was an attempt to dumb down Trek for the network execs who had a very low opinion of the American public. I could have been much worse, but, its purpose showed.

"Farpoint" was OK, but TNG really didn't find itself until the second to third seasons.

"Emissary" worked more as a long setup for a story arc than it did as a story on its own.

"Caretaker" and the rest of the first season convinced me not to watch Voyager.

"Broken Bow" was a pretty good story, and a reasonably good intro to the 22nd century Enterprise (previously established canon notwithstanding).

There was quite a bit of potential in "The Cage". And it is a shame that NBC execs thought it was too...highbrow for the average American viewer. If they'd kept it like Gene originally wanted, then maybe we'd have actually stayed on the Moon after Apollo 17.

Or it would have been cancelled after the first season and public interest in space exploration wouldn't have even held to an Apollo 17, if the show had that much influence on it eitherway.

Personally, I like the more racially intergrated crew we eventually got.

And Broken Bow's in second.

There's no ballot stuffing whatsoever. What do you think this is...an election in a Third World country? It's all us old timers here.

When I saw TOS the first time, it was in syndication; TMP hadn't even come out yet. So the special effects were fresh, and beat the pants off the original BSG and Buck Rogers. So I got to see the relationship between Kirk, McCoy and Spock blossom just like the real old timers here who were lucky enough to see it first-run.

Wait...I voted for the Cage. Does that make me an old timer?

I love the Cage and Where No Man...TOS is my favorite series.

Not quite. I picked up my Trek habit on TNG. I think the first episode I saw was the crystalline entity episode. I saw TOS entirely in syndication (and out of order), DS9 and ENT when they came out, and parts of VOY.

I'd have to say that I voted for the one which sucked the least...
