First Officer's Log

The air was nearly as stuffy and rank outside The Swamp as it was inside. The lighting was no better, but she and Baran had been down this particular side alley before. "Not like you bring a friend along, " Baran said roughly as they passed under an archway and into a darkened alcove.

"I can't help it if I have a fan club," her reply was flippant, but her tone was sharp. She had no idea that Quest's Sergeant Major would show up and start lecturing her.

He pushed her back up against the wall, obscuring both their faces in the shadows, as someone stumbled by reeking of cheap tequila. "This thing on Elasia, it's not as cut and dry as it's being made out. Keep your assets out it for as long as you can." His warning, whispered hot in her ear, was clear and she nodded her understanding. Backing away, he used his body to provide a shadow for her disappear down the opposite end of the alleyway.

As she turned he smacked her on the behind, his smile shining in the dim light, "Watch your six."

Hayden sat in the Command Chair, the scene replaying in her head. "This thing on Elasia ..." She cast a side ways look at Koshic sitting next to her in the XO chair. It was obvious that things were not as they seemed. Civil wars don't break out suddenly. There is always an undercurrent that foretells the coming storm. Sometimes it's harder to discern, but it's always there. Nothing had been said about Elasia. No rumors, no murmuring, nothing.

She tapped lightly on the armrest, letting her thoughts come full circle. A decision finally made she stood and looked at Koshic. "You have the Bridge. I have a meeting to attend."
