Keeping station with unmanned outpost

Target practice hadn't made her feel any better, and now she was late. A fine way to greet her new people: tardy and tempermental. Ah, well, no help for it now.

She paused outside the NNC, gaze straying further down the corridor to her office door. Perhaps it might be best to wait, and greet them at shift's end? It would be less rushed, and her temper might cool by then. And with this mission, it was unlikely that she would be called away beforehand, as so often seemed to happen.

Maybe Admiral Moldy did us a favor after all, she thought, smiling a little. Maybe this mission she would be able to be Marine Commander first and First Officer second, for once. Not likely, of course, but hope springs eternal and all that rot.
