Psychological Profile: Report of Starfleet Counsellor Henga C’Dee

During his assessment periods Finn has shown himself to be composed, logical in thought and calm under pressure. His personal history however conflicts with this which would indicate either a complete personality change due to an undisclosed event or an ability to hide his true reactions. Certainly his need for social interaction and the corresponding lack of warmth between him and his remaining family members would suggest a need for social acceptance and a desire to feel wanted. In team tasks, Finn has a strong leadership quality although is sometimes observed to act as if he is the only person upon whom he can rely, thus creating more work for himself than is necessary. Again, this would seem to indicate a connection to his family relationships.

As this psychological contradiction appears to be ongoing I would advise Finn’s commanding officer to be aware of possible emotional issues which may be buried beneath the surface.

Professional Assessment: Starfleet Academy Section Tutors

Finn has had a somewhat rocky start to a career with Starfleet. His Security training appears to be one of his best subjects although he has a tendency to preempt his superior’s orders. In the Sciences he has proved quite knowledgeable and shows some promise.

Finn has also aided the Starfleet Medical with his medical research into a stable alternative to the compound Hytritium. This has now been forwarded for further tests on the effective treatment of tricyanate poisoning. Starfleet Medical have requested further training for Finn.

His engineering skills are basic, although he does understand warp technology concepts to a lesser degree. Communications and Life Support systems appear to be his major let downs in this subject.

Reprimands:

1: Absenteeism from Academy History lessons on three separate occasions and was discovered engaged in playing cards.

2: Unauthorized use of Academy Shuttlecraft for solar system cadet race.

3: Unauthorized use of Holodeck for practical joke purposes on new cadet.

Early Years: Report of Starfleet Counsellor Henga C’Dee

Born in Dublin on Earth, Finn is of mixed Irish/Scandinavian descent. A competitive relationship with his brother was encouraged by their mother but unfortunately this led to bad feeling between the two and they have not spoken in eight years. Finn’s mother was absent during most of his early childhood and Finn was raised by his father. Early school reports showed a popular yet easily distracted child with good potential. This all changed when he was incarcerated in the Dublin School for Juveniles at the age of 14 for theft, violent behavioural characteristics and the suspected manslaughter of a farmer. The manslaughter case was later dropped. It was here that Finn met and befriended known juvenile smuggler Nickolas Fermaine. The two became good friends and when both were finally released from the Juvenile centre they disappeared together to the Mining colonies in the Beta Quadrant. As Fermaine made smuggling contacts, Finn often acted as the ‘getaway’ pilot, developing piloting and engineering skills with the old and rather unsafe Mining Cargo Vessels. Eventually making themselves unwelcome in the Mining colonies, the pair transferred their operations to the Bajoran system where Finn learned conversational Bajoran and a smattering of Cardassian. When Finn’s father became ill on Earth, he left Nickolas and returned to his home, looking after his father until his death whilst his mother continued with her career.

With no direction pulling him, Finn began gambling, although badly and during a bar fight was arrested by Starfleet Academy Cadet Kim Chan. Kim attempted to persuade Finn to enter the academy but Finn disappeared for eight months before returning to Earth and enrolling in the Academy.

Medical History

With the exception of minor bumps and cuts, Finn has been extraordinarily fortunate not to have been more seriously injured during his choice of lifestyle.

He was treated on Deep Space Nine at age 25 for plasma burns although he would not disclose where he sustained these injuries.

Finn received a broken arm in a Klingon honour match which he attended whilst inebriated at the age of 20.

Hobbies

Finn enjoys a wide variety of hobbies and pastimes including socialising, gambling and betting, Darts, Chess and reading pulp science fiction novels from the early 1980’s as well as gothic horror novels from the 1920’s. He is also fond of phaser target practice and can be found on the holodeck when it is empty practicing his aim. This tends to be a solitary pastime as he would not wish others to think he was being overly officious.

Contrary to his outward demeanour, Finn has an avid interest in the latest medical breakthroughs and receives daily updates from around the Federation.

I'm just glad I graduated to be honest. I'm not bothered by rank particularly, but do like the idea of the continued storyline in the advanced sims.

Is midshipman a rank for security only in Trek? I haven't come across it other than on C17/18th naval fleets.
