"You know Kania, I heard that there is a constant prayer vigil going on at every major Bajoran shrine on Bajor and DS9," Jon says as he continues to work.

 

"I have heard that too.  Although when I say mine, it's not in front of a shrine.  I have to pray wherever I can," she states as she grabs another valve, then she comes up with,  "I think J'Ddan is going to ask the captain to do the proceedings.  Do you think she will do it for us Jon?" she says and then looks up at Jon and waits.

 

Jon replies, "Sure.  Captains love to do that sort of thing."  Jon then starts back on his story, saying, "Anyway, just the other day, I heard that in the middle of a candle ceremony, the Kai got up and  exclaimed, 'Oh, Prophets!  Hear my prayers!  Come back to us, even though I am nothing before you!'"

 

"The Kai said that?" Kania asks, looking at him in shock, "I can't believe it!"

 

Taking  his 12th valve, Jon adds, "Yep.  And Minister Jarro was so moved, that he got up and called out, 'Guardians of the Celestial Temple, have mercy on us!  For I am nothing before you.'"

 

Kania grabs another valve, adding the last one to the pile, and listens to Jon, who continues as he moves the inducer over yet another valve, saying, "Well, the shrine's curator was so impressed by their displays of humility that he said, 'Hear me, Prophets, the lights guiding of Bajor!  I am nothing before you!'"

 

"I wish I could have been there.  I would have loved to see that."

 

Jon then says, "At this, the entire crowd stopped dead in its tracks.  The Kai and Jarro turned to the curator and said, 'Look who says he's nothing!'"  Jon finishes up his sixteenth valve and busts out laughing.  He then takes out another valve and, seeing Kania's blank reaction, says, "Hmmm.  Well, maybe Jewish humor doesn't translate into Bajoran well."

 

Kania finishes no. 17 and grabs the last valve, saying, "I don't know what to think of that Jon."  She then pauses for a moment and offers, "Hey!  Jon, you're real funny.  You really had me going for a minute."

 

"Yeah, I can tell," he says flatly as he finishes up his 18th valve and shuts down his lathe.

 

         Kania finishes last valve and turns off her lathe.  "Well that's the last one," she says as the mircoinducer powers down.

 

Jon stacks the valves in a box and says, "Good.  Now you can help me and Yenem install them."

 

Kania mumbles something under her breath that sounds like, "Ratin-fratin-fundel-hoppin-fudge."  As Jon looks back to her, she says  "You got it boss," giggling as she thanks the Prophets that he didn't hear her.

 

Jon picks up the box and his new toolkit.

 

Kania sees the  new tool kit and asks, "When did you get that, Jon?  It looks nice," as she grabs her old-looking one.

 

"Well, Kania, my old tool kit got vaporized along with my phaser and kligat."

 

"Oh, no!  You lost your kligat, too?  I'm sorry to hear that, Jon", Kania said to him.

 

"Yeah, and I was getting good with it, too," Jon says.  As he walks to the door, he comments, "Ya know, Yenem actually appreciates my humor, so let's go.  Okay?"

 

"Sure Jon.  Let's get to it," Kania says as they walk out together.
