Finn, oh my gosh, I totally love you (sorry, I had to get out some of my "I'm a ditzy valley girl" build-up). That link is absolutely wonderful. This paper is beginning to look more managable. :) ::runs off to do some more research:: :)

Glad I could help. Haworth, where she was buried, is a favourite haunt of mine. The winding hilly main street and the olde worlde shops are fantastic. Good camping there too :)

I finished my paper and still managed to get almost thirty minutes of sleep before I had to go to class!!!

Unfortunately, I had to work tonight... so I didn't get to go to the academy sim. Maybe I'll get off early tomorrow. ::looks at clock:: Hmm. Well I guess that would be today.

wOOt. Another academy sim. Didn't die either. CENG.... I was trying to branch out... requested Med, then tac, then eng.... but still got eng. 'Twas fun. Can't wait until tomorrow. I hope I don't have to work.... that would not be near as much fun as simming. :)

Thanks for the guidance Spitfire, but I believe the conversation has steered back on topic. In fact, the last post of mine was solely about simming and my attempts to branch out. From the advice people have left this humble newbie ::looks at self:: I have gathered that I should attempt to sim in as many varieties of roles that I can. Thus, my last post was my observation that although I did request med and tac before eng, I was still in engineering. I may be mistaken, but I felt that that particular observation coming from a newbie was on topic. Then again, I am still very new at this. I thank you for your warning either way.

Unfortunately, GM's can't always grant post requests. I usually take post requests with these conditions in account (in no particular order):

1. the order received (If you come early, you're more likely to get your requested post)

2. Placing a cadet has priority over placing a graduated simmer.

3. Placing a cadet in a position he/she has not played yet.

4. Filling up the ship's roster. In general, I want each department to have at least a chief.

5. How many previous academies the simmer has played. On a first sim, a player is more likely to be assigned an assistant's post. A cadet who has demonstrated that he/she is advancing is more likely to get a chief post with assistants. But, being assigned as an assistant does not necessarily mean anything with respect to an individual simmer's progress. Frequently, other considerations override this condition.

6. The number of requests given. Obviously, if you only request a single dept, if that dept is full or other departments are completely unfilled, you're less likely to get the request. Usually, it's a good idea to provide a prioritized list of three requests. This is especially true if the request is for single-position bridge posts like HELM, OPS, and TAC.

I'm sorry. My comment wasn't meant to come of like I was angry or bitter about not getting the post that I had initially requested. I understand that multiple requests may be made for a single post. Sorry if it came off that way. I admire what you guys do and the patience it takes to deal with newbies, I wasn't trying to be insulting or anything.

When I made my comment I was simply stating that I had indeed attempted to take the advice given to me by people in this thread that I should try and branch out. I appreciate all the advice that has been given to me and understand that it comes from experience, which is why I attempted to follow it. Personally, I really like engineering, so I'm not complaining. :)

It wasn't taken as an insult. My post was meant to be informative.

::looks at above posts:: Thanks for the congratulations. Hopefully I'll have some nights off soon so I can actually observe a few advanced sims. This week has been all work and no star trek. ::sighs::

trekgirl_a I don't quite understand your question. Can you not get into the chatroom? This is the link to the chatrooms to participate in sims. This is the link to the schedule. I'm not quite sure what you mean by you can't get in anywhere. If you are having trouble loading the chatroom, you may want to update java on your computer. I hope this helps a little bit.

Help!!! I can't get in anywhere!!! Anyone care to direct me?!!

Hi and welcome to STSF.

If you would like us to help you, you will have to tell us what you are trying to do, and what error messages or undesired results you're getting. If the problem is computer-related, you should also tell us as much information about your computer setup as you know (operating system, web browser, and Java version are good starts). Be as detailed as possible.
