Ah, the joy of being new

42 posts in this topic

Well I am completely new. I went into the Holodeck at 12am for my first time. As Assistant Eng, I managed to use replicators 60 years prior to their invention. Hm. Well, that wasn't too smooth. But I had loads of fun. So I guess that's the important thing, eh? Anyroad, I am glad to have found this site and can't wait until the next time.

Hello. I am the STSF Resident Egomaniac, and I would like to welcome you to the Star Trek Simulation Forum at stsf.net (as opposed to stsf.com; try simming there :) !) Just remember that the secret to simming is to have fun and the secret word is "Rankine vortex".

May you die well. :P

Oh, was that Joe's sim? Don't worry I remember I once spent half the sim in a turbolift before I remembered I needed to touch the handle.

Anyway welocme to STSF. Hope to see you around the academies.

Hello and Welcome to STSF. This is a good crew here.

Only thing you need to watch out for is the T'Venus SFly'Trap - it was brought here by the Rihannsu and placed in the Lobby - it snaps.

Check out the Moose Tips (Under the Academy topic section), Help, and Rules (Both under the STSF header) sections. Once you do venture into an academy, the GM's and fellow players are great helpers. And you have fun at the same time, so it's all good.

And don't believe all these crazy rumors about cadets getting killed by the GM's in the acad...**AHHHHHHHH** **MRRPHHHHH** !!!

<ACTION> Kansas is attacked by the T'Venus SFy'Trap

Happy Simming!

- Kansas >^..^<

You and Finn are going to do just fine.

But don't burn yourself out trying to graduate.

Trust me, they will break you.

I'm counting on it :P

Cheers Vatric. How's the injuries??

With my Ro... ahem, With my Vulcan physiology the bruised nose should heal very quickly. A bare-knuckled fisticuffs is always fun when you've had too much ale.

Yup, dead jealous!!

Heheheheh.

Although there have been reports of some deaths in the academy, its best to prepare some funeral services incase you do die. Luckly once you graduate and move onto an advanced sim, the worst is over. The chances of death are high in certain situations, but allmost everyone ends up surviving. But thats only if Academy sims are off your menu =P

Woot (sorry, couldn't help it). My boss called me, and I don't have to go in tonight!!! Therefore, I shall be joining (provided the computer is not being used) another Academy sim tonight. Hope I don't die (although it was entertaining :P ).

Okay, so I lost power today because of a tree catching fire at the front of my neighbourhood and falling on the lines. I got it back at 9:56!

I did not die in this Academy sim. :P This is so immature of me, but I was Helm and Opps so my designation was <HOPS> and every time I saw it come up on the screen I'd start laughing. Hmmm. ::shakes head:: :) I have the maturity level of a teenager sometimes (checks birthday); Oh yeah, I am a teenager.

Anywho, I had a lot of fun. <HOPS>

::HOPS up and down::

Oh you mean the position I should know that by now! That is a fun post. Hey a good Idea is to try all the areas out. Remember you're in the academy and your prospects for the future are wide open. I made the mistake of having an idea of what I wanted to do when I graduated the academy. Needless to say that completely changed. I am just getting ready to take my first advanced sim post as Operations Manager on board the U.S.S. Reaent. I thought I wanted to be security. :) I found I really liked the OPS/ HOPS position and also TAC. So dont be afraid to try new posts in the Academy. After all whats the worst that can happen. . . :P

Pneuma's right.

Try all of the posts :) I thought I'd never like science but it turns out I really really do! (Didn't care for security tho :P )

Science is the one post I try to avoid. Waay to much technobabble. Engineering is close to that. And Medical I can handle. But, security is best for me.

Honestly, try as many posts as you can to get a feel for them. I know that when I watch an academy cadet, if I see the person constantly asking for the same post,

it gives me the feeling they aren't ready to try other things yet. I'm more apt to watch the person trying something new.

Another thing I've noticed over the years, are people clamoring to get a bridge post. Honestly, after you graduate and move onto an advanced sim, it is very rare that there will be a bridge spot open. For the most part, you will be assigned as an assistant in an already established department. I know that on both of the ships I run, that bridge posts are not available to new players unless there is some extenuating circumstance. I usually take applications from players already ON the ship, for an open bridge spot.

So, don't groan if you think.. "Oh no, I'm AMO2", go with it, and do the best you can. And next time, ask for CSec, or ASci. It's all what you make of it.

Clearly a Vulcan plant...it has a "T", not a 't'. Blame them.

If it was a 't' it be a Romulan plant, and those are probably just as nasty as some Romulans
