"Things With Stingers..."

Laarell hated things with stingers. They were always menacing looking. Little black beady eyes. Shiny natural armor. Scary things.

 

Her spider was different. Citrus was soft-looking, orange colored, and looked generally friendly if you could forget the fangs.

 

Excalibur was a dead ship, she decided. Giant scorpions had beamed into Engineering. Probably not for the last time.

 

Pause there. Giant scorpions had beamed into Engineering.

 

Why the hell was she not transferring? Earth had some cushy desk jobs open...

 

Visions of stingers danced through her head. Shiny black stingers. For the sake of the entire pantheon, why wasn't Starfleet withdrawing from the Gamma quadrant? Were they insane?

Stingers...

 

Pinchers...

 

Scorpions...

 

No wonder she'd let herself slip with the bartender like that. She was that desperate for a night's release from thinking about Giant Scorpions.

 

Evil scorpions.

 

Nightmarish scorpions.

 

She hadn't even seen them herself yet.

 

Not that she wanted to. In fact, she was still hoping that they'd retreat to whatever nest they'd crawled out of and stay there.

 

Hell, at least Citrus suddenly would seem less threatening to the other crewmen...
