Voices in the Dark

The fires of great open bowls of liquid lit the grand hall. Towering columns shaped like giant Scorpions held the roof of the room. Buried deep in the heart of the Scorpiad Empire, the Grand Emri Place of Arcanis stood as testament to the power and the strength of the Scorpiad Empire.

The grand hall, where the Emperor held court stirred with a palatable buzz. Sitting upon a great throne of silver and grey stones, that, to a human, would have appeared be backwards, a great black figure arose. His shiny blue-black exterior glistened in the humid air. The Emperor saw all.

Approaching him, a majestic yellow-brown Scorpiad, standing at least 6 feet clicked This claws, his tail was very thick, and the long stinger at the end waved eerily as he walked. He was flanked on either side by two slender, pale humanoids with red eyes, trailing him an elder male, pale but less so than the red-eyed ones, his eyes glowed softly in light blue.

“General K’Tda,” the Emperor said in harsh raspy tones.

“Your Excellency,” the yellowish Scorpiad said as the approached the great chair, which stood upon a great podium at the end of the hall. “We have news…”

“I expect nothing else,” the Emperor said, dismissively.

“The initial onslaught against the Changelings has been successful,” K’Tda said, as they stopped at the stairs that lead to the chair.

“Have they surrendered so quickly?”

“No,” K’Tda said apprehensively. “We are regrouping our forces at Al-Ucard and Surma to prepare for a second wave of attacks.”

The Emperor seemed to hiss at the news. “Then why have you come here?”

“Something most unexpected has arisen.”

“Continue,” the hissing stopped.

Relief washed over the entire party, the Emperor did not tolerate failure lightly. “The Changelings have new ally…”

“A new ally?”

“Yes…a race of humanoids from a planet called…Earth.”

“Earth,” the Emperor repeated. “Interesting, do they pose a threat to us?”

K’Tda motioned to the pale figure nearest to him. She nodded and approached the stairs, bowing deeply, and falling to her knees. “Your supreme grace,” her reptilian voice conveyed the fear she felt. “One our scouts managed to attain a prisoner of these…Earthers. And interrogated him.”

The Emperor’s mandibles twitched slightly. “And?”

“We were able to gather some information about them,” she said, not looking into his multiple eyes. “They are not of this Quadrant.”

“From another Quadrant,” he seemed surprised. “hen how?”

The man with glowing eyes stepped foreward. “Noble leader,” he said as he fell to his knees as well. “I am Lord Marrius of the Al-Ucard, we serve our makers, for the have made us.”

The Emperor motioned for him to continue.

“Several months ago we encountered these, Earthers. They are from a…Federation of sorts, an alliance of many worlds in what they called…the Alpha Quadrant.”

“Most Interesting.”

“They were quite willing to share information with us,” he said. “Apparently there is some sort of wormhole in Dominion space that allows them to travel between quadrants.”

“A stable wormhole,” the Emperor was obviously more than interested now. “I want this wormhole found, General K’Tda.”

“And when we find it,” the General said. “What then?”

From the shadows, a short, white and golden Scorpiad appeared.

“The Mari have plans for it,” the Emperor said, motioning towards the one who had just appeared. “All you need to do…is find it.”

“As you wish my lord…”
