Help!

I'm new and I'm trying to join up. It was suggested to me that I change my screen name to "Cadet T'Ana" for durring the chat rooms, since that will be my rank, but I've been unable to figure out how to do so. Am I even supposed to be trying to change it here? Or am I supposed to change it on the main site (which I haven't been able to figure out how to do either)? Could some one point me in the right direction?

Hello, and, once again, welcome.

The name you're using on the message boards is ok - in fact you can use any name here and it is independent of the name you use to chat.  I think it is preferable not to use your rank in the message boards name because it gets a bit annoying when you get promoted.

The name you use in the chat rooms is the name you sign up with on startrek.com.  Go to www.startrek.com/community/chat.asp and click on the "Register now" link.  If you've already signed up under a different name, you'll have to log in under that name, change the email address and sign up for a new name under your real email address.  Also, be aware that as far as I know, startrek.com does not allow spaces or apostrophes in your name, but underscores are, so you'll have to use cdt_tana, cadet_t_ana, cdt_t_ana or some variant like that.

This question is now answered in the STSF FAQs.  If you need any more help, post again on the boards.

Hope this helps,

Hi T'ana.

First, Welcome aboard.

Second, having cadet or cdt or whatever as part of your startrek.com chat name is not an absolute requirement.  It lets the GMs know that you are interested in eventualy graduating, but there are plenty of other ways to do this.  We've even had people chat as cadets with names like admiral_something or lt_something or cmdr_something.

Third, once you create a username in startrek.com this can not be changed.  However, you can create as many usernames as you like.  You have to give a unique e-mail address for each one, but startrek.com doesn't check to make sure these are even valid e-mail addresses.  (If I'm wrong then the owner of [email protected] must be really angry at me!)

If someone from STSF wanted to contact you they would probably do so through the address you have set up on THIS site, which is independent from startrek.com

lol - True. You don't have to have (a) The same chat name and the same Forum name here at STSF, and (:) The "cdt" or "cadet" in front of your name. Actually, until I graduated, my chat name was simply "HyperDrive". I used it in the StarTrek.com Message Boards, and I just happened to wonder by during a STSF Academy Sim. It wasn't until after I graduated did I change my StarTrek.com name. (If you'll notice, my Forum name is still "HyperDrive". I have no reason to change it. :) )

Actually, I already have my future StarTrek.com Login Names set up... let's see, I have LtJg_HD, Lieutenant_HD, and I have no reason to go on further with this list...... lol - Right now, I'm just taking up space on StarTrek.com's server!   :o

The first time I graduated from a Trek Academy, I had "Captain" in my screen name. Strange days they were.

As long as the GM's know you're a cadet, it doesn't matter.  Most GM's ask for a show of hands from everyone looking to graduate.  If they don't, and you want to be safe, just send them a private message.

Lets see... what ST SN's do I have...

:: counts :: I currently have 9 ST SN's on file. 3 of them before STSF.net, the rest I got afterwards.

When I graduated the Academy... I had "Admiral" in my SN... beats Captain Jorlis.   :o

I hope you enjoy simming with us in our academies.  I think all the tips  have been already posted...wisely. I remember PMing my GMs a lot when I  first started...it worked.

BTW...I love your Avatar...but am curious as to what world/moon that is?
