Right thing to do?

Greetings,

Well, first of all I apologize for any of the managers or people who might wonder why I never sent in a preference for either station or ship. Unfortunately I have been hesitant the past few weeks while reviewing my future schedule, and did not wish to cause any problems with things that may occur.

Anyways, the dilemma I have is that I will be abroad all of next year, as well as working and such this summer. I recently graduated the Academy a few weeks ago, however I did not wish to join a ship, merely to have to go away a few months later and be gone for that period of the year. The time I would be abroad would be in London, and it would be exceedingly difficult to maintain the kind of dedicated roleplaying you all deserve.

So, I guess that is my problem...but I was curious if anyone had any particular suggestions? I still WANT to rp here, but...yeah. There is the problem.

Thanks to anyone who reads this.

Keep coming to the academy! Just because you graduated, doesn't mean you can't continue to play. There is a rule that if there is a gap of six months or more between your graduation and first advanced sim posting, you have to go through the academy again as a cadet. When you're ready to join an advanced sim, if it's been more than six months since graduation, come back with a cadet name and the first time you do, tell the GM in charge of the academy that you're trying to graduate again and you would like that academy sim to count towards graduation. Since you've already graduated once, (and you had been playing in academy games occasionally anyway), a second graduation should not take too long.

Also, occasionally, some sims announce that they need non-player characters for individual plots. If you think you can make that sim for a few weeks, you can sign up for one of those short term gigs.

Hope this helps.

I dunno, when I first came over from Hong Kong to England I thought I could keep going to Aegis every week, that I'd simply adjust over time. However the sheer problem of zone differences inevitably made it impossible no matter how hard I tried. I then sorta disappeared from the site for a while thinking "oh well, guess I'll never do that again". However after a short while I began to miss it more and more and decided that there had to be a time I could meet so I've jumped to Excalibur on Sundays instead and it seems to be working for me. Sure its damn late but I love this weird place.

I guess my two cents is that if you know that there is no way on earth you could meet a sim on a regular basis, don't feel ashamed that you can't, real life can be a pain in the arse for us all. Forcing yourself to meet an awkward simtime like a chore instead of a hobby will kill the fun factor of it quite a bit.

But if you can see a way of finding that little niche, that gap in your schedule, (even if its at a bizarre hour) and it won't hurt your real life priorities, do it, cos it will be well worth it. ^_^

Hope that helps!

P.S

Oh crud, I'm becoming the agony aunt for these type of problems aren't I?

I fully understand your problem. I'm in Germany so I have a similar problem when it comes to attending sims regularly. I'm now simming on Aegis (saturday mornings for me) and Reaent (friday mornings) and I don't find it all that difficult. I just go to bed early and set my alarm clock to 4 am, get up for the sim and then go back to bed. It works fine for me but it took some time to adjust.

All the more reason to have a Saturday morning sim.

As has been discussed multiple times, STSF will add sims both as players and hosts allow for.

I have somewhat of a similar, yet different problem. Im on Challenger, and the time for me is REALLY hard to attend every week since the next day I start school for the week. 11pm - 12am is a really hard time frame for me to fit in especially when my parents don't even agree I should stay up this late. Although ive only attended 1 Challenger sim so far, I really enjoyed it and I'm not sure what exactly i should do. Laarel suggested join Excalibur, since it can better fit my time for Sunday's but I need some help with what I can do. Moore, I probably should of emailed you, but I saw this post and decided to make my message here.

While in Iraq, I was actually planning on returning to the Arc, since it would have been 7am Thursday mornings for me. But, alas, do to the fact that CENTCOM's J-6 (Information Technology [Radios, Satellite Communications, Internet]) blocked STSF.net as a "Gaming Site" and the rec hall's computers were in a 30 min time limit, even the best laid plans fall apart.

If you can do it, certainly, continue to sim. I've made friends here that, although I have yet to meet in person, I count among my good friends.
