Waiting Until October...

38 posts in this topic

Hey there,

Well, without spoiling anything since I'm certain some at still looking for time to watch their VCRs or TiVos, Battlestar Galactica's season two ending was...how shall I say unexpected?

Outside of saying I was hoping most of the ending was a dream sequence, I'm slightly annoyed that we'll have to wait until October to see the start of the next season. While Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis will both still return in July, apparently someone thinks Galactica needs to wait.

Hum.

I'll be waiting for the DVDs so I can actually watch the whole season in one sitting.

I have to wait several more weeks before I get to see it. ^_^

I just finished watching all 3 and a half hours of the SciFi finales, and WOW what a night! Kinda repetitive though, anyone who watched all three knows what I mean ^_^

This BETTER be some kind of dream sequence thing.

I don't think it is - if they reveal that in October, they WILL lose people's attention. Leaving us with this ending keeps every wondering what the frak will happen come October.

Damn it sucks to not say everything straight out - watch it already everyone! ^_^

So is Ron Moore using some Star Trek "tricks" on BSG? I'll comment more on that last 1/2 hour when everyone else sees it.

But regarding waiting unitl October...

Frak! That's a lot to ask from fans. I was going to have a struggle to make it to July. This is a deviation from SCI-FI's norm of rolling out all of SCI FI Friday shows together as a unit. I think...Galactica would of been ready for 10 epis in July at least like her fellow Friday night shows..but something else to consider perhaps. This show is not 100% SCIFI's. SkyOne and Universal/NBC have a say in things too. Now I honestly cannot say how what time of year SkyOne rolls out the rest of it's programming but an October rollout is consistent with a major network seasonal rollout (give or take three weeks).

Battlestar Galactica has recieved much praise from the press. Has NBC decided to actually give it a slot for the fall O6 lineup? The show is filmed HD something SciFi hasnt been utililized but NBC has (recall Battlestar was on NBC as a time filler one night...I believe it was season one finale it's been a while).

I admit I dont have anything to back up this hypothesis and it would be odd for NBC to air a show that would of been broadcasted earlier in the week on a Cable network. It does pack a heck of a lot of drama and the tech that would bog down some people on star trek just isnt there. It has recieved a wealth of favorable reviews...maybe someone else wants their piece of the pie in their lineup too.

Okay, I'm coming in as a casual BSG fan here. I watch it occasionally. I am not gaga over the show, but I think it is well done sci fi.

With that said - Eh?

I watched the last half hour of the finale...when did Baltar become full president?

Starbuck is no longer a pilot? Chief Tyrol and Cally have left the ship also? Rosalyn was in that refugee camp also?

And from a non-fan perspective...waiting until October is a loooong time. Either the show is having problems, or they need to give the actors a longer hiatus or something. Or maybe they just want a longer time to make the return episodes really slam bang.

Hey there,

Need to watch the first two hours of the complete 2 1/2 hour finale to explain such things. ^_^

Agreed. There weren't any plot holes *that* major in there. The BSG finale has us all guessing (or, saying "what the frak!?"). If it's got us wanting to see the next season this much, it's a huge success.

All I can say, is that no half another of television captivated me more. It made me think a lot of Voyager from "Year of Hell". Just seeing the look on Lee summed up, espically when they do the close up of him on the bridge.

When the Silons jumped in and didn't start firing. Then Adama had to make the choice to jump with the fleet, that was nuts!

I also liked the SG1 ender, i thought they were gona pull another find a great weapon to save us at the end trick but they didn't, while still leaving the door open for it.

And did anyone believe the Wraight? Come on now..

::Raises hand::

I actually thought the Wraith Hive was turning good, hah.

BSG on NBC? No doubt they get to more viewers that way...

Probably not. I'm not sure that prime time is ready for a sci fi show right now, and maybe not one of the calibur of BSG. When I watch it with other people, they get confused and say it sucks. Then I throw them out of my house.

SG-1 was pretty good. As for Atlantis, I knew the ended since I cheated and read a bunch of spoilers. But I think they did it in a good way. The expedition really screwed up this time around ^_^ Not only did they give up the location of Earth, but the Wraith also got the retrovirus, and know the best place to plant it on the hives. We basically gave them a double whammy :P

As for next season of SG-1, well I'm not going to say anything... :)

THis was just fracking awesome. Best episode yet and I still can't believe the last 20 minutes of the episode. It felt like a movie to me...and I definitely can't wait until October.

Hey there,

Actually, your comments mate got me thinking. I remember looking at the time index on the tape at about 30 minutes in. However, I will be honest, from that point on it honestly felt like a flippin movie or something. I cannot comprehend it was only an hour (forty five minutes I suppose without commericals). That's saying something.

Overall the episode was an hour and 6 minutes, but yes, it did feel like a movie to me about halfway through.

A very darn good show...A big Gamble I dare say with your core audience. But an opportunity to perhaps draw a new audience in.

And according to the Podcasts from the Producers..it wasnt a dream.

Indeed they are rolling the dice..and taking risks; Unlike the late Trek shows. BTW Micheal Taylor has just joined the Galactica writing team.

Indeed it was a big risk. A lot of people loved it but I do know there are some that though this was horrible. But the way I see it is they needed fresh material, a new big storyline. Something other than "we're running from the cylons". I always wondered how long coudl they keep that story going without something major happening, and well something major did happen. Hopefully this won't lose some fans, a bold risk but BSG has always been about the storyline and the big risks.

Hey Voyager did for 7 seasons. ^_^

Anyway, I am intrigued to see where this is going. I won't be terribly surprised if Baltar wakes up to find it election day!

I am now on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens. :)

Onto another point. I think this is one of the best shows out thereperiod. It's so well done from a technical point of view. The camera angles, the cinematics...everything. And the acting and plot is just kickin!

I think the show is a real tour de force of theater.

:P

I totally agree with you there, NDak! It took me a while to get used to the female Starbuck and Boomer, but not long.

As for Baltar, I've always thought he was a Cylon anyway. A-way back in the first season (I think), after he tested his own blood, Six said, "Congratulations. You've found your first Cylon." That, and the fact that he was in the resurrected Six's head a few episodes back. Yep. Bona fide Cylon.

And why the heck do they make us wait until OCTOBER? Gak...

Oy. IMHO NBC would ruin the show - the way they did TOS.

Besides, they seem to be spending most of their money on Law and Order Spinoffs. I can't wait to see: Law and Order: Harbor Police.

And Jami, all we need is someone with a Kermit avatar, and we'll be all set. ^_^
