MLB Picks

Anyone that knows me knows that I am a huge baseball fan. It's always been my favorite sport. Like the NFL picks, I'm going to attempt to predict the MLB season. This, of course, is a lot harder to do than predicting the NFL, but I'll try anyway. :D

American League

East

*1. Toronto- The Blue Jays? Are you kidding me? No, I'm not. I think the move to the own the Rogers Centre really freed up some money so that they could go out and get players. I like the mix. We'll see.

2. New York- With a payroll like that, you expect them to do well. Alas, though, they don't make the playoffs (not that I'll be crying).

3. Boston- Although they will be competitive, I think Boston is going to start to enter some down years.

4. Baltimore- They will underperform like always.

5. Tampa Bay- We'll see what the changes will bring, but don't hold your breath.

Central

*1. Cleveland- They had a lot of spunk last year! Look for them to continue it again.

2. Detroit- What?? Detroit? Yes! Finally, they will be over .500 and be competitive. Look for them to be in the Wild Card race.

3. Chicago- Their title defense won't go very well.

4. Minnesota- A team searching for consistency. They won't find it.

5. Kansas City- Oh for the glory days of George Brett.

West

*1. Los Angeles- Still a powerhouse team. Watch for them to go deep in the playoffs.

W2. Oakland- Young pitching will mature even more than last year helping Oakland to a Wildcard birth slightly over Detroit and New York.

3. Texas- Pitching will be improved, but not enough to stay in contention. Offense will be awesome.

4. Seattle- Making progress, wait until '07.

National League

East

*1. New York- There’s no doubt the Mets have one of the deepest teams in baseball. They are preparing for something very special.

W2. Philadelphia- I think they finally capture a playoff spot.

3. Atlanta- While they won’t be horrible, they will play according to their talent for once.

4. Washington- Won’t be as competitive as last year. Sorry Frank.

5. Florida- Bargain basement salaries translate into bargain basement standings.

Central-

*1. St. Louis- There’s nothing that will keep this team out of October.

2. Chicago- A perennially close team, but just not enough juice. We’ll see if their new acquisitions pan out.

3. Pittsburgh- Yeah, finally the Pirates will be close to .500!

4. Milwaukee- Young and powerful. I really like the infield.

5. Houston- A dying team. They made very few roster moves and if they don’t get Clemens back, they’re in trouble.

6. Cincinnati- Ho…hum.

West

*1. San Diego- Will be improved over last year, but won’t make a huge splash.

2. Los Angeles- If the team stays healthy, they will compete.

3. Arizona- Average team this year.

4. San Francisco- I don’t think the Bonds effect will do too much this year.

5. Colorado- They really need to get out of that thin air to compete.

Playoffs

AL

Los Angeles vs. Cleveland- Winner: Los Angeles

Toronto vs. Oakland- Winner: Oakland

Los Angeles vs. Oakland- Winner: Los Angeles

NL

New York vs. San Diego- Winner: New York

St. Louis vs. Philadelphia- Winner: Philadelphia

New York vs. Philadelphia- Winner: New York

World Series

Los Angeles vs. New York- Winner: New York

Oh it’ll be Pandarmonium.

I hope you're right about Toronto. We need something to cheer for up here. :D

Yah, your right. The fact the Leafs arent doing so great (Terrible IMO) we need a Toronto based team to cheer us up.

Grommy, Grommy, Grommy...I HAVE to disagree with you about Houston. Yes, they're probably not going to win the N.L. Central, but they're not going to finish behind Pittsburgh OR the Cubs. A second or third finish is more likely, and as Sports Weekly suggests, they're probably looking at yet another wildcard berth.

Riiiiiiiggggghhhhhtttt...

They'll be .500 alright...till the All-Star break when they trade their best players off because they're so poor, they had to auction off one of the 70's World Series trophies.... :D

And, living in the NYC Metro area, I somehow doubt the Mets'll even make it.

And LA? They were bums in Brooklyn, they've been bums in LA, and they'll be bums far into the 24th Century.

And the Yankees need to work on team cohesiveness before the start of the season.

Baseball never quite stuck with me. I think it was Vanroy who said "I dont see the point in a game where the objective is to run home"

Or something to that extent :D

Actually I was quoting George Carlin, but yeah.

Of course let's face it. You don't go to a baseball game to watch the game, you go to sit in the stands, enjoy the sun (unless it is the SF Giants), drink a few beers, eat a few hotdogs, etc. The game is just something that goes on while you are there.

Well, I like hocky, but but some people watch baseball games, me included...

I agree with what you said with the St. Louis. They'll usually make it to the playoffs, but then they suck.
