Tuner Gear Heads and Speed Demons

::The Board Admins are going "Oh man, here she goes again::

::The masses run in terror::

Yes, it is a Kansas review. I know you're all thrilled. B)

Need for Speed: Most Wanted - very fun game, available on X Box and PS2.

I started with the Need for Speed series back on the Playstation One, then NFS: Hot Pursuit on the Playstation 2. I skipped NFS:Underground 1 and 2, mainly because the cops had been removed. Honestly, Need for Speed is all about running from the cops.

Need For Speed Most Wanted combines the best of Hot Pursuit and the Underground games. You are a street racer in the game. You can tune your car, and change the look, but don't need to be a gear head to enjoy this. And they brought the cops back for you to run from, and this is fun and a challenge. I am pleased overall with the game interface, the options and such. The soundtrack is actually pretty good, a mixture of alternative rock and rap. And if the music isn't your cup of tea, just mute it.

There are shortcuts, and whenever you catch air, the game will go into a cinematic slow motion mode to showcase every bit of your air time, and it looks mighty sweet.

Control is fine, at least...I'm able to keep the car on the road. But, there are cars to suit everyone's tastes, as well as cars you can win from opponents. As you progress, you earn cash to put into your ride however you choose, but choose wisely. Do you really need that flaming orange paint job with the 01 on the side, or would it be better to get the engine upgrade?

Just wanted to recommend this game if anyone is in the market for a racer. I also need to say - even though we all know this - this is a game, and I am not recommending we all go racing or running from the police. This is just a fun little game for a few hours of getting away from the real world.

Oh, my current car of choice is a blinged out Mustang. Muwah.

Thanks,

Seeing as I'm a local short-track driver, I was considering buying the game...but I despise the "ricer" era, and NFS is a tribute to it, so I've stayed away.

Same here.. I like racing games. Most of my games are racing inspired, but I'm not a big fan of rice cars and bling-bling. I think all the ricers in the world, should all crawl in a hole and die.

I'm a member of several NFS forums, but the majority of the fans of MW are the pre-teen ricer boys. I miss the NFS series of old. NFS I - V. To me, those were the best. You could race actual cars people dream about. Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsches.

Plus, in NFS III and IV, there are many user made cars and tracks available. You could download virtually any kind of car you want. Despite being a seven year old game, NFS High Stakes still enjoys massive popularity, because of this. I wish my copy still worked. There's plenty of Ferarri Enzos, Lamborghini Murcielegos, Shelby Cobras to keep me enertained.

But that's just me (and most of the people in the NFS forums I'm a member of). EA never was a company to listen to it's consumers anyways. A shame really..

I sympathize with y'all about the "ricer" cars; I've always enjoyed the racing games, but thanks to "Fast and the Furious" (which I did enjoy), we have really been bombarded with the street racing games lately. Give it a couple more years, and then the bombardment will focus on something else.

On the bright side? I am pleased that "Most Wanted" offers both the ricer cars as well as Mustangs, 'Vettes, and the Lamborghini cars. If the Mustangs and 'Vettes did not make an appearance in the game, I'd be dissappointed. And, as a non racer, I do find the game enjoyable for a few hours to satisfy my speed demon leanings.

The game does a nice balancing act between the ricers (Career Mode) and straight racing (Non-Career), with objective based races. But, again, it won't satisfy everyone. B)

This post was intended as a fun heads up if anyone was interested in a racer, and I know the racing game genre isn't for everyone. But as an open dicussion the opinions are noted.

Well, for the sake of keeping this thread open, I'll discuss my racing game genre experience.

I played NFS 2: Underground, and while it was an alright game, I just didn't enjoy it that much. I think my favorite racing game of late was the Rush series for N64. I still have my copies of the original, and 2049 which I play rather frequently. There were also a few racing games on the Genesis I used to play and enjoy, but I can hardly remember their names.

Besides, I'm getting 24: The Game tomorrow, and for the love of all things Jack Bauer, Im only comming off that game to sim again B)

I enjoyed the older NFS for the reasons that Kansas listen. Outrunning the cops was the best element of the game and the feature made it unique from other racing games. I have not played the new one, but it's a distinct possibility in the near future as I re-enter the console gaming world after a four year hiatus. B)

I'll stick with my Ace Combat. Nothing quite like pulling Gs and launching missiles at the bad guys.

::Gives Will a lolipop of coolness::

Theres nothing like playing Shattered Skies with my tricked out F-22 B)

And in regards to my loving Captain... I pictured you pulling over and trying to get out and explain why you were going so fast

Come to think of it...I used to drive past the cops going under the speed limit, and they'd still chase me. B)

As far as racing games go, I'll always be a big fan of the original "Top Gear" for SNES. I also like the original NFS, and Cruising USA (PS1) for you old timers out there B)

Also I *love* The Gran Turismo franchise as I think they're some of the better games out their.

Of course, I also like several of the EA Sports racing titles. B)

Note: All of my racing game experince is with consol games.

Yes, GT games are awesome!

Any EA Sports title is usually going to be a good game. In fact, almost everything made by EA is good quality.

::Smiles at Corizon:: Top Gear rocked like a boulder rolling down a mountain.

Not to knock EA games, but I prefer some other compainies over them. I am also rather angry over them for buying the rights to the NFL, having been a player of the 2K series.

::Decides to completely avoid the subject of Ubisoft::
