"Victory Amongst Loss"

"Victory Amongst Loss"

Lt. Laarell Teykier

February 22, 23--

Laarell finished washing her latest puncture wounds courtesy of Citrus and hit the record button at the science console. Damn, she didn't even have a chief right now to do the department's logs.

"Begin recording. Acting chief science officer's log, USS Excalibur. Copy to official records; USS Morningstar.

"The majority of the science department operated out of Main Engineering during the battle against the Hundred fleet. The Morningstar's sensors were continually monitored to give those in Engineering a clear picture of what was happening outside, as well as to get a good idea of what sort of damage the repair teams would be dealing with."

"We picked up antiproton bursts originating in the area of the Romulan ships. The Hundred vessels were somehow managing to fire upon the Romulan vessels through their cloaks, which raised some concerns."

"Several Hundred vessels broke off from the main group, targeting Camelot. Luckily for the starbase, Camelot's weaponry was able to destroy the assailants without much difficulty. Then the ships began kamikaze runs, colliding with Starfleet and Klingon ships."

"One of the Romulan vessels, apparently without navigational control, came dangerously close to colliding with the Morningstar. Luckily, a Klingon vessel was able to tow it out, but at the cost of drawing the attentions of three fighters."

"Two of the vessels were disabled, but the third slammed into the Morningstar, causing massive damage throughout the ship, including a hull breach on the Bridge."

"The majority of the Bridge crew was able to evacuate, right as a large contingent of vessels entered the system. Fortune smiled upon us that day, as it was not reinforcements for the Hundred fleet, but a large supply of battle-ready Starfleet ships, including the newly refitted USS Excalibur-B."

"The Hundred fleet cleared the system, and the crew of the Morningstar was evacuated to Excalibur."

"However, it should be noted that no great victory, including this one, comes without sacrifice. Starfleet lost many good officers aboard the starship Kyoto, as well as Morningstar personnel Zack Chen and B'Nai Summers."

Laarell blinked back tears. No, if she started crying again, she didn't know if she'd be able to stop.

"This concludes the duty report. Recording off."

She absent-mindedly watched the spider scurry around its cage from afar, not in the mood to risk being bitten yet again.

Her mind drifted back to the battle. Victory it was, but at such a cost...
