New Series Idee-errs

40 posts in this topic

You know how all these forensic science shows hit it off pretty well? Well, I was thinkin, maybe they should create a Star Trek : Forensics. Or something of the sort. Maybe have a crew assembled to solve intergalactic crimes, internal and otherwise? Have some futuristic forensics involved? I would really enjoy something like that in a Star Trek setting. How about you guys? What do you think? =0]

Eh.. what with all the different CSI incarnations, I proabbly wouldn't see it. It's a nice show, I like it, but.. eh.. Anyways, what I'd like to see is perhaps an Excelsior class series set prior to the events of Star Trek VI. It's just too bad George Takei is probably too old now to repeise his Sulu role, that would've been great. Or.. perhaps an Academy series.. I've heard some talks bout that. But, right now.. I think it's best that Star Trek "rest" for a few years before thinking p a new series

CSI: Cardassia Prime with Odo as the head of a forensics team.

They would need some pretty good writers to pull that one off.

Seriously. But I was thinking, you know the New Frontier series? They could make that into a Star Trek series. I'd enjoy that. Would you?

I agree, a New Frontier series would be very interesting, providing that they put Peter David on the writing staff.

ST: Forensics would just be unoriginal and derivative. If there will be a new ST series, I'd rather see something more in the actual spirit of Trek. As long as B&B aren't writing.

I don't understand why every other trekkie insults B & B. Even if their material was done poorly, at least it had substance. Can somebody explain that to me?

I wasn't aware that it had substance.

How about something along the lines of a Federation BSG-type starship, just without the quest for the missing 13th colony? I think it's about dang time that we see carriers in Star Trek. I mean really, the entire fleet is made up of science vessels, frigates, cruisers, and dreadnoughts?

I think it is like roughage - you know, hard to digest and ultimately ends up as...

Sadly, in Star Trek, highly probable. Especially since in DS9's "Sacrifice of Angels" allowed starships, at least Cardassian Galor-classes to target and destroy fighers pretty easily.

Good idea and I agree! Gets my vote.

Only problem? This type of Trek series would be BASHED to death as "Treks attempt at BSG". It would be a critic massacre, and I'm sure most Trek fans would have kittens at the "soiling" of the good Trek name, know what I mean?

As for the Forensic Trek? Can't see that flying either, although I need to throw out some kudos for the nifty idea.

I throw out the idea of a "Section 31" series. How about it?

I understand that sometimes things need a bit of a rest, but I do miss having a Trek series around.

how about instead of focusing on a ship they focus on a fleet like, 'Star Trek:Alpha Squadron.' Now if only they had a Galaxy-Heavy Carrier like the Reant AU had.

I seem to recall something along those lines when DS9 first aired. And that was because Babylon 5 was already on TV, first PTN, then TNT. And look how successful DS9 became.

Maybe branch off then, and look at the SF Marine Corps? Although it might get boring if there's no one to fight. After all, how many times can you watch a bunch of jarheads strip their phaser rifles, clean them, and reassemble them in nothing flat?

What I want to see, but won't happen, is a mirror universe series. That might be kinda cool...

This is true. We can only watch Col. Harper, MCapt. Hanna Beth Rieve, Pvt. Merril, Lt. Col. Day and Major Korix do that so many times on the Agincourt and then...::falls asleep::

I liked the MACOs on ENT. I wanted to see that explored a bit more, but honestly don't know how SF Marines would translate to a weekly series.

And a Mirror Universe series! Oh! Right there with you P. Carst. That would be so much fun...but again, probably wouldn't translate too well into a on-going series.

The mirror universe in ENT had some creative writing the way they tied it to events in the more traditional universe, but other than that DS9 just ruined the concept. It stoped being a "mirror" universe and became an "opposite" universe. It is fine as an OCCASIONAL story line, but the 4 or 5 mirror universe episodes in DS9 diluted the concept too much.

What made the mirror universe work in TOS was the characters were essentially the same, just with a different set of stimuli. Spock was still logical (and still pacifistic), Chekov was still ambitious, Kirk was still a womanizer, Sulu still liked gadgets and was *ahem* heterosexual, etc. It's just that the environment they were operating in was skewed so their responces were as well.

Im not really looking for a new Trek series for a while, being content with SG-1, Atlantis, and BSG for my weekly dosage of Sci-Fi.

However, while brainstorming a couple days back, an idea struck me for a Trek Mini Series. Set in the movie era, with the cold war with the Klingons. You could have a dashing conflict as said randomship stands on the brink of starting a galatic war between the Federation and Klingons.

I always loved that movie with Denzel Washington, and Gene Hackman on the sub, where they're suposed to shoot out a Russian missile complex, but the orders cut out. I cant think of the name at the moment, and I know if I say something, it'll be way off...

But yeah, I'm thinking that a Star Trek cold war thing would be pretty cool.

Yeah, I have to agree there. The whole DS9 Mirrorverse just pissed me off. I think that the ENT version was done pretty well, certianly better then DS9's. Best I can explain my reasoning for the Mirrorverse, is that Cocrine was a bad dude in the verse, when the Vulcans land, he killed them and stole their stuff, hence starting the empire.

I sort of view it the same was as religion. Your only christian because your parents raised you as such. Most of these guys probably aren't down right evil, maybe they didn't know any other way or such...point is, you'd be suprised what you can teach your kids to do.

This is probably why the Mirrorverse was never touched in TNG...

Crimson Tide - and you will note it is the same theme music as on the Reaent website.

Oh yeah, interesting concept. How about a whole series from the perspective of the Klingons or Rommies or whomever. Just like we have a Klingon SIM, we might just enjoy a ST: Klingons? Personally, I really enjoy Klingons and Vulcans, and would love to see more of them, but in more of a ST:TNG setting.
