Joint Log :  Ens JCAce and Ens Zera

Following Dr. Ann's order the two Ensigns leave the morgue.  Zera heads straight across the hall to sickbay.  "We must.have a portable stasis field generator in here somewhere."  Begins looking around in different area's, wishing she had just asked Doc Ann where it was.  Finally sees the object she is looking for.  Motioning to J'Ddan she grabs a handle, "If you take the other side it shouldn't be too hard to get this to the holodeck."  J'Ddan

reaches down and grasps the other handle , "Yes, this isn't as heavy as it looks."   Zera smiles thinking, "Maybe not for a Klingon/Human."  Simultaneously they lift the generator.  Zera glances at her desk, noticing the PADD and wondering if she has any messages.  She makes a mental note to check it when this assignment was done.

J'Ddan and Zera walk out of sickbay and head for the holodeck.  They manage to get into some sort of rhythm as they walk which lessons the pull on Zera's arm, but not much.  She was also taking slightly larger steps to keep up with J'Ddan.  "You know, Zera, this idea should work.  All we have to do is get the right setting."   "I don't believe that will be very difficult." Begins to feel like her arm is being stretched,"Have you decided where we are

going to put the eggs so they won't be damaged?"  "I thought we could pile them on an anti-grav platform.  That way if anything rocks the ship there is less chance of the eggs being damaged."  "Good idea."

Entering the holodeck they walk to the corner and set the generator down.  Rubbing her bicep, she admits, "That got heavier as we went along."  J'Ddan looked at her for a second before replying, "Yes,  Zera, it did."  She hides a smile knowing he was just being polite.  "By the way, you can call me Z.  Most everyone I know does."  J'Ddan nods slightly, "Ok, Z."

He moves over to the anti-grav platform, positions it and begins tapping in commands.  Zera kneels down by the generator and makes sure the stasis field is set for silicone based lifeforms.  She looks up slightly startled as J'Ddan says, "This idea of yours is great.  How did you ever think of it?"  Uncomfortable with praise of any type she jokes, "I'm just a brilliant doctor.  What more can I tell you."

J'Ddan persists, "All joking aside, no one had a better idea."  Blushing slightly she concentrates on the generator again and murmurs, "Thanks."   "You are welcome."

"The platform is ready.  We can begin putting the eggs on it."

Nodding she rises from her kneeling position and starts gathering the eggs one by one.  She notices the J'Ddan is able to pick up two eggs at a time while she can only manage one.    Each egg is set with care on the platforma and the job is quickly completed.  "There are supposed to be 20 of these aren't there?"  "Yes, did you count them."  She nods as she quickly counts again. "We're missing one."  They both begin looking around and she spots the

missing nodule.   "There it is."  She says relieved and walks over to it.  Picking it up she notices it is warm and starts carrying it to the platform.  Before she can get more than two steps the eggs is burning her hands.  Fighting the urge just to drop it and get rid of the pain she carefully lays it down on the floor.  "Z, what's wrong?"  "This one if very hot, I believe it is hatching."  She glances at her red palms, blowing on them to cool them

off.  "Are you ok?"  She smiles reassuringly at J'Ddan, "No permanent damage."

Moving to the generator quickly she pushes some buttons and modulates the setting.  "We have to get this thing up and running.  If one is hatching the others may be ready soon."  Watches as the generator starts giving out readings.  "Good, we now have a level 3 Stasis Field around the eggs."

Turning back to the hatching egg, she sees what appears to be smoke and suddenly a small reddish worm-like creature appears.  Zera smiles scanning the baby, "Well, J'Ddan, we should be congratulating ourselves on witnessing the birth of this Horta.  It's a girl."  "What are you going to do with your baby, Z?"  Watching the Horta she smiled, " I didn't know that Horta hatchlings looked so much like symbionts.  Of course symbionts are not red, but the

shape is similar."  The hatchling melts away the rest of its egg.  J'Ddan laughs, "You are fun to work with Z."  "Thanks." She wonders if J'Ddan knows that she is being serious but keeps quiet. No need to let everyone know how strange he line of thought was sometimes.

"J'Ddan, unless we want to be ensigns for the rest of our lives and be responsible for the ship be damaged, if not destroyed, maybe you should beam this little one in with the others."  Watches as the baby as it moves along slowly, the acid leaving a scar on the decking.  A transporter beam grabs hold of the little horta and it disappears in a shimmering light.  Zera hopes it is not scared too much by the transporter.

She runs a quick scan on the horts eggs.    "The are all set, J'Ddan."  He nods, "Good."    "I'm heading back to sickbay to give Doc. Ann a full report."  Turns to leave the holodeck but stops and looks at J'Ddan, "I may be out of line here, but I would like to give you a little *advice* if you will..."  J'Ddan looks over at her, "I'm listening."  Hesitates for a brief second, "Try to relax.  We are both fresh out of the academy and nervous, but the

officers here seem to be good people and aren't expecting us to be perfect."  J'Ddan smiles, " Z, it is just the Klingons are all business.  I have a heard time relaxing sometimes.  But thanks for the advice."  Smiles and nods, "I know you can relax.  You did with me." Laughs softly, "Enough of the lecture about relaxing."  "I need to report to Cmdr Darr."  Together they exit the holodeck and head seperate ways.
