Chell Reno

Personal Log "Past Events" Part 2

Begin Log.....

2nd Lt. Chell Reno slowly regained consciousness. His vision was blurred and he couldn't tell heads or tails of anything around him. Slowly his vision cleared and he realized he was laying on his back. He tried to sit up and look around him but the instant he lifted his head a deep throbbing pain shot through his skull. Chell nearly fainted from the pain but managed to stay conscious. His head fell back against the surface he was lying on. A few seconds later he heard some foot steps approaching him and shortly after that he felt something metallic press up against his neck. There was a slight hissing sound and suddenly his vision started to clear up and the pain in his head wasn't as severe though it was still there. He managed to sit up and notice were he was for the first time. Chell was lying on a bio bed in USS Vigilants sickbay. The ship he was currently assigned to. He looked up and saw the person who had partially healed him. It was an attractive Vulcan female in medical blue with her hypo spray still in hand. He looked up to her.

"What the.....? What happened?"

She pushed him back down.

"You have a severe concussion along with several severe lacerations along your arm. I caution you to use restraint until I complete your treatment."

Chell looked down at his arms and noticed how scared they were. caked with dry deep sapphire blood. He sighed and surrendered to her treatments. After about three hours and a nice long nap Chell awoke feeling refreshed. He looked down and there was no blood and his wounds were completely healed. He smiled and stood. The same Vulcan nurse approached him from the medical office to his left.

"Good your awake, Admiral Write wishes to speak with you immediately."

Suddenly his memories came rushing back.....

The launch of his patrol... The accident.... The fire.... the screams as his flight group died in merciless explosions.... His head hitting the control panel....

"Oh gods........"Chell whispered to himself. ignoring the Vulcan's comment about the admiral Chell grabbed her by the shoulders and looked her in the eye.

"Did anyone else make it?" He said with evident fear bordering on panic filling his voice. His blue hands began to tremble.

"No I'm sorry Lt. Your the only one who survived...."

Chells face went blank. He staggered back and collapsed back onto his bio bed just staring into space.

"Why.....?"

The doors swished open and Admiral Anthony Write entered along with his XO Commander Cody Collins.

Admiral Write approached Chell with a look of mourning on his face.

"Mr. Reno, How are you?"

Chell snapped out of his daze and noticed the Admiral. He tried to stand at attention but the admiral had him sit back down.

"I'm sorry about your flight group Lt. They were good men...."

Chell nodded and swallowed hard.....

"Yes sir they were..."

The Admiral took a seat next to Chell.

"You do know we will have a full investigation into what happened. I know you dont want to talk about this now but if there is anything out of the ordinary that happened we need to know as soon as possible"

Chell nodded again.

"Do you remember anything Lt?"

Chell thought back for a second and almost said no but then he remembered what he saw on Freds fighter right before they took off. He explained what he saw to the Admiral trying to look professional despite his urges to just break down and surrender to the pain.

"Hm mm.... This could be a bigger problem then I thought. If you remember anything else then let me know immediately. Also JAG will have you file a report here in a couple days. Think your up to it?"

"Yes Sir."

The admiral stood.

"Rest assured Lt. if this incident was sabotage the guilty party will be caught and put to justice."

Chell knew the Admiral meant that to be comforting but somehow it didn't help. Chell just muttered.

"Thank you sir,"

The admiral nodded and left with his XO behind him.

.......................................................................................

One year later. Chell's extended leave apartment. Earth.

Chell got up as he heard the door chime ring. Probably that damn kid from down the hall again.... Chell thought as he pulled on a robe and answered the door. Before him stood Vice Admiral Anthony Write. Chell snapped to attention.

"Sir!"

The admiral smiled as he saw Chell.

"At ease Lt. Your on leave and defiantly not on duty."

Chell smiled back and motioned for the admiral to enter his domain.

"How can I help you sir?"

The Admiral entered and clasped his hands behind his back.

"Actually this is about how I can help you, I understand you are going to resign from the marine star fighter corps?" He stated the fact like a question.

"Yes sir, as soon as I get my paperwork in"

The admiral smiled again.

"Allot has changed since last year. I've gotten a new lead on the saboteur of your old flight group, which it was sabotage by the way."

Chell's mood lifted and fell at the same time at the good news and the remembrance of the now not-so-accident.

"Yes sir?"

The Admiral motioned to a pair of chairs around a desk.

"you may want to sit down for this."

Chell took the seat opposite the Admiral across the deck.

"It turns out that we have identified the race of the saboteur. He or She is part of a group located deep in the Gamma Quadrant. We are not sure about the races name but they are known as religious radicals in their part of space. A very dangerous group of individuals. Fore allot of their terrorist work they use personal cloaking devices to plant bombs and other equipment without being noticed. That's most likely the cause for the disturbance you saw. However I cant prove any of this to SF Intell. I have no real concrete proof. at least not anymore. It turns out just after you left all our internal sensors logs that indicated the type of technology used along with other proof we had

gathered all disappeared. We think this was also the doing of this terrorist group."

Chell just sat there letting the words sink in before the admiral continued.

"i do have an idea. but it wont be without its consequences."

Chell looked at the admiral interested.

"Go on"

"I'm going to completely erase you from star fleet and put you back in. The flagship of the Gamma Quadrant exploration task force the USS Excalibur is having one of its junior medical officers is scheduled to retire next year. I think I could get you this position, its the best I can do at the moment. You scored fairly high in all your courses in medical at the academy so I figured this would fit you nicely. I will also be sending you to medical school until this officer retires. If you except you are under orders not to discuss this with anyone and your previous career is not to be spoken of with any crew member including Admiral Day the current CO of Excalibur. If this is discovered by the major brass then we would both be in deep crap. This assignment has already been denied once because of lack of proof to support my claims but I think we both know I am right about this. Are you interested....?"

Chell was utterly shocked. A chance to avenge his fallen crew mates after all this time.... Chell brightened at the prospect.

"You've got yourself a nurse sir."

A year and two months later Chell boarded the Excalibur.
