ShoreLeave 2006 - Orlando!

178 posts in this topic

Alright folks, here we go. Let's keep this thread nice or I'll start plucking responses from it or close it down again.

Dates: July 14-July 16

Location: Orlando, FL

Why: To meet and greet with folks you know from STSF or want to get to know!

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: This is NOT an official STSF event, it is not sponsored by the forum. It is not set up for anyone who will need supervision, no one guarantees a good time, a scheduled weekend or specific events. It is simply an opportunity to gather at the same time and same place as others from the forum. (Of course, you'll have fun, but it will be fun of your own making)

Okay then. A lot of folks will be looking to stay at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate. We are trying to see if we can get any sort of group rate/discount and will have more information later. If the Omni prices are a bit rich for your budget, there are many hotels right in the area

Some people are planning a Saturday trip to the Space Center and some are even thinking of enjoying some evening hospitality of The Mouse.

More details (including the ever-present "Meet-N-Greet with A9" events) will be planned, but not specifically posted to the public Boards. If anyone is interested in getting more details and or/ will be attending for sure and would like to keep up on any and all shifts and changes, please send an e-mail to me at [email protected] and I can include you in a private mailstring.

A9,

Checking out on Sunday or Monday?

That's up to each person to decide. Some people are even coming into town on Thursday, but Fri-Sun is the core of time when most folks will be around. Some people will leave on Sunday, others on Monday.

***NOTE ON THE OMNI*** The issue with the block of rooms/discount is still very much in the air. If something can't be nailed down soon, we may shift the "main" hotel to another, so folks may want to hold off on making any reservations for the moment.

Wow, thats quite the place, A9. Looks like fun. Is this place like smack dab in the middle of everything, kinda, or on a transit of some sort, do you know?

I've never been there, so I don't know. This is what we got from the concierge at the Omni.

This Orlando trip is new territory for most of us, so we are not as familiar with this location as we are of Las Vegas, where we have been before.

Well, from the looks of the map, The Omni is pretty much to the west of Disney. It's far from the cliche main tourist area, but it's still within 20-30 mins in a car (Depending on that wonderful I-4 traffic) of all the major attractions in Orlando.

Hope that helps! :P

Cool. Is there some sort of metro line? Or are we slaves to the All-Mighty Cabbie? =0]

Oh I wouldn't take the cabs here. They are extremely over priced. I'd just rent a car. It'd be cheaper in the long run.

More details, huh? Okay, here they are!

"The Omni Orlando Resort will offer a discounted group rate of $129 per night plus a $10 resort fee and taxes for the dates of July 13-15, 2006. Since this is not a guaranteed room block, rooms and rate are truly based on availability at time of booking."

What does this mean? It means that you should reserve your room(s) as soon as possible to get the discount from $270 down to $140. The absolute cut-off is 30 days prior to your arrival, but since it is also based on availability, it is possible that you may not get the special rate even if you call 40 days prior, so make your reservations ASAP, if you know you're going.

So, how do you make the reservation, you ask?

"Individuals will be able to make reservations by calling Central Reservations at 1-800-THEOMNI (800-843-6664) and referring to the Star Trek Simulation Forum or STSF event and saying that they will be staying at the Omni Orlando Resort."

There will be an announcement about the STSF Shoreleave website soon. Remember, if anyone is interested in getting more details and or/ will be attending for sure and would like to keep up on any and all shifts and changes, please send an e-mail to me at [email protected] and I can include you in a private mailstring.

See you in the Sunshine State!

"Cabana time with Dac"

Hmmm, cabana time with Dac... would that be considered improper for stepsiblings to engage in? B)

Don't worry, it's not like any essential clothing will be removed.

I know. I've tried.
