Gaming Etiquette

Just had to be random and pass along this little incident. If this thread branches off into gaming experiences go for it.

Tonight I was playing some Enemy Territory (First Person Shooter) on-line. Now, when I do play, my class and weapon of choice is Engineer and the Grenade Launcher. I am not the best shot you will ever see, but eventually I get ya with the 'Nade launcher.

I was called a "Grenade L aunching ****" by someone else that I didn't even shoot at. My response was "It gets the job done." There was no further flaming, and the game continued. Told him didn't I? lol.

Now, I do not get why some in game weapons are considered "****" or "newbie" weapons. If they are there, I'm gonna use them.

And what about fantasy based on-line games? Anyone ever have issues with being called names due to some magic spell and such? How do people here deal with any in game flaming wars and such?

I know during my game clanning days I was a witness (and sadly participated in a few) to some doozey flame wars. But thankfully, I also learned how to handle myself with some kind of on-line honorable-type etiquette.

Just a general question about how others tend to handle themselves. If the thread goes pffhhht thats okay, as its just me being curious. B)

I had that done to me a couple of times. It's usually either a sore loser, or friend of the loser, either way they're acting stupid. And my answer to them is just what you said...though I usually like to rub it in their face I beat em...

Same here Jones, I was on WoW and my mage did one spell that makes guys frozen in place and even the guys on my own faction (this was a battleground) said I was a noob. Then I just said, "Well let's see you make someone stand still?" I quickly look at the Druid and say, "Inside OR outside." I was hated and loved that day. Mostly hated, specifacally by the Horde.

I show most smack talking noobs with a shot to the head on Halo 2. Followed by the traditional T-bag and other things.

The guys who take it freakishly serious are annoying. I remember that I once took out the reigning counterstrike champ at a gaming cafe i used to frequent. This guy was purely a sniper, he's pick off people from miles off and pull that jumping while moving thing to stop getting hit. Problem was that I used the big big big minigun that I got when I earned enough cash and no matter how much jumping you do, when that's pointed at you, you're toast. Anyway he gets up and walks over to my computer and tells me that if I don't leave the cafe immediately he's gonna get his triad friends to rough me up.

Luckily it was at the end of my paid hourly session and it was gonna be last round anyway so I didn't care. But guys like that, man are they stupid.

Actually, I was never under the impression there was a gaming etiquette...

Well I think there is a generally understood set of rules to follow online gaming, we enforce them here.

However for the particular genre being discussed here, I still think there is a similiar set of rules that dictate behavior. I think that such hazing, (a la killing nOObs) is kind of funny [coming from the ye old killer of cadets].

However, flaming is just retarded. And flaming back, you make yourself look just as stupid.

I'll use Halo 2 as a example. If your playing a random game that has rockets or the sword to bad so sad. Its in the game if you don't like it take it out or play MLG(The Major League Gaming game type in which "cheap" weapons are not allowed.).

As for talking smack, i love it, getting in the other teams head is a legit way of playing. I don't like it when it is taken to fare and racist comments are thrown out.

Just on Sunday, when I was playing Call of Duty 2 with my clan mates, I shot this guy Cpt. Foley with a headshot from across this room, and he jumps through a window I move pass doorway, like i walk pass, he jumps thgough, I lean out and kill him.

Then he goes and accuses me of using an aimbot. So basically i say things like why would I need an aimbot to increase my score when i honestly couldn't care less. And he basically just shut up after 15 minutes

Probably 95% of the people playing on-line pretty much just hop in a server to have some fun. MOST servers that I've been on, everyone just does their thing and we play. It's only a matter of time until you run into the trash talkers; I guess as long as we have on- line gaming, there will be the trashers.

I had a twelve year old (at least, I assume he was young with the voice) call me a Noob once on Halo 2...because I ranked higher then him after the match was over...he he. :P

That last bit, of the Halo 2 reminds me sooo much like a story my friend told me. He beat this other guy and my friend gets called a noob for it.

It confused the heck out of me, I know that! You do well...and get called a Noob, which usually means you DON'T know what you are doing.

The mind boggles.

Whenever does something like that I use logic. I say something like, "I'm the noob? I'm the noob?!?! I'm the one who got a better score then you!!! Wouldn't that make you the noob?" Hehe that always shuts them up.
