  Medical Report :  Patient 7309

  Ensign McDay

  Initial impression:  Viral neuro infection

Pathogen type :  Unknown specie in Federation records,  Acetylneural type

  Begin report

Ensign McDay was found unconscious on the bridge area, apparently in neurotoxic shock. An unknown viral pathogen was found mainly in the Ensign's cerebral cortex.  Elavations in serotinin and neurotnin were also found upon further scans. Behavior prior to incident were described as neurotic, and bizzare. Subject was noted to have assaulted senoir officer using a hypospray containing an unknown viral culture, designated as Pathogen X until

further nomenclature could be assigned.

Pathogen X,although unknown, seems to have properties of anerobic type virus, samples exposed to open atmosphere were noted to have the RNA links oxidized and therefore rendered  non-functional. It would seem safe to assume that this virus is blood-borne, and chances of droplet contamination are minimal if not non existant.  I, however; have assigned a team to monitor air samples for the next week to make sure.

Concerning the pathogen hyposprayed on the Admiral, I have studied scans and plasma samples from the Admiral,  It seems that the broad spectrum antiviral serum given at the time of infection proved to be effective, up to this point, I have recieved o complaints of ill effects from the Admiral himself, and the remote sensors placed on him have shown no abnormalities besides an increase adrenalin level in his system,  most likely from the

increased stress level he is undergoing.

Ensign McDay is currently in a state of confusion, and is still held under quarantine.  Currently, he seems to be making delusional statements,  I at the moment am unable to properly assess him,  I will be sending a request to the Counselor for a psychiatric evaluation for the Ensign.  Initial studies show that the virus attacks specific tissue types, among them are nerve cells (speifically at the myelin sheath) and adipose tissue.  I suspect

due to the acetylspecific encoding in the RNA af the virus.  Although further studies are needed, It  could be conjected that the Ensigns bizzare behavior is related to the viral infection.

I have sent information I have gathered to StarFleet Medical for further analysis, and probable identification. Until more concrete facts are descerned,  Ensign McDay will remain under quarantine,  and remote monitoring on the Admiral will continue, as well as further research on Pathogen X.

  End report
