"To Squash Or Not To Squash..."

(Note- Never squash spiders. ;-) )

 

"Look," Laarell shouted, pointing at a data PADD that she was waving around furiously. "It says right here that your kind do eat crickets! There's one in your cage right now!"

 

The tarantula naturally didn't reply or make a motion to attack its dinner, which exasperated the Orion even more.

 

"The most stubborn creature I have ever seen." She sat back and looked at the brilliantly colored arachnid. "I need something to call you other than 'that thing'..." Teykier looked around the room for inspiration, her gaze falling on the uneaten orange. For a few moments, she rotated her attention between the fruit and the spider.

 

"Citrus? Like that name, honey? It suits your coloring." She reached in and gently began to stroke the spider's back.

 

Laarell didn't learn her lesson from the first time that she'd tried her hand at being kind to the orange monster. Her hand now had another puncture wound to complement the earlier one, and one question burned in her mind...
