Egads.....Captain Kirk sold himself!

Just when you've seen it all.....

The original story

Capt. Kirk Beams Kidney Stone To EBay John Stith

Expert Author

Published: 2005-11-18

Emmy-winning actor and science fiction legend William Shatner plans on beaming a rather rare rock on to eBay. Shatner recently passed a kidney stone, hopes to recover it from his doctors and sell it on eBay as the ultimate piece of Star Trek memorabilia. The sad thing is some goob will pay it.

Currently starring as his emmy-winning character, Denny Crane on "Boston Legal," Shatner is best known as the legendary Captain James T. Kirk of the starship Enterprise. Shatner hopes to pass this kidney stone to one of the many fans through eBay and donate the proceeds to charity.

The tough part will be convincing eBay to let him sell it because they have a strict rule against selling body parts. It's unclear how small rocks passing through the body fit into this rule. Trekkers have shown a strange, otherworldly ability to buy all kinds of memorabilia. This wouldn't the first time eBay has sold some peculiar items in the past, including tattoos, miracle sandwiches and other oddities.

It's a fairly safe bet though that if eBay allows it, some charity will have a nice holiday gift. Some may think urethra nut or an idiot to bid on it, but one things for sure, it'll take stones to put your name up there.

Want a piece of Captain Kirk!?

William Shatner Sells Kidney Stone

Jan 17, 5:34 PM EST

The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- An online casino has a piece of Capt. Kirk. Actor William Shatner has sold his kidney stone for $25,000, with the money going to a housing charity, it was announced Tuesday.

Shatner reached agreement Monday to sell the stone to GoldenPalace.com.

"This takes organ donors to a new height, to a new low, maybe. How much is a piece of me worth?" he said in a telephone interview.

GoldenPalace.com is noted for its collection of oddities, which includes a partially eaten cheese sandwich thought to contain the image of the Virgin Mary.

"This is a bold new addition to our fleet," GoldenPalace.com Chief Executive Officer Richard Rowe said in a statement.

The money will go to Habitat for Humanity, which builds houses for the needy.

"This would be the first Habitat for Humanity house built out of stone," joked Darren Julien, president of Los Angeles-based Julien's Auctions, which handled the sale.

Shatner, who played Kirk on the original "Star Trek" TV show and won the Emmy for his role on "Boston Legal," passed the stone last fall.

The deal includes the surgical stint and string used to permit passage of the stone, which Shatner said was so large "you'd want to wear it on your finger."

"If you subjected it to extreme heat, it might turn out to be a diamond," he said.

Shatner said the idea of selling the stone came up after "Boston Legal" raised $20,000 for Habitat for Humanity. With the money for the stone, Shatner said there is about enough funding to build half a house.

GoldenPalace.com originally offered $15,000 for the stone but Shatner turned it down, noting that his "Star Trek" tunics have commanded more than $100,000." His counteroffer was accepted.

:: shrugs:: A friend of mine managed to sell a pair of old socks on eBay for 10 bucks so why not a 'famous' kidney stone.

Golden Palace is also the site that bought the Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich and the advertising rights to a woman's body, among other things.

I've checked out E-bay, mainly for any Trek items or my other obsession, ThunderCats. I just can't bring myself to bid or even check further into how E-Bay works. I know it has been up and running for a while now, but for some reason I don't trust E-Bay.

Anyone else feel this way? Has anyone here ever used E-bay? Thoughts?

As far as e-bay goes, let me just say buyer beware, check out the deal, and dealer thoroughly first, now as far as purchasing,or conducting transactions

over the internet, again be aware that even the most secure transactions,

can and are regularly hacked by nondesirable sorts (e-criminals),i have in

the past purchased items over the internet, however i use a specific acct..

that has a debit capability(card),with a fixed amt deposited there,so if by

perchance my security system,or the dealers secured payment method is

compromised ,well they are limited to the funds they can access...

I've used it in the past. I bought a NASCAR Computer game for about $12 US, and the Neon Genesis Evangelion Box Set for $88 US. Both experiences were pleasant, the sellers were very friendly, and I got my items reasonably quick. Yes, there's bad sellers in eBay, but if you do your homework, there's no reason not to trust eBay.

The most important thing to do, is to first check the seller's feedback rating. That's the number beside the seller's username (in brackets). Look at the number of feedbacks they have, compared to the pertage of positive feedback the person has. The higher number the better, of course.

Click the picture for an example:

Also, is important, if you have any questions ask them BEFORE your bid on whatever it is you're bidding on. You can email the person a question on the bottom of the page. Other than that, it's just like any other auction, read all the fine print and everything else carefully, and you should be fine.

Edit: Also, with eBay is the Buy it Now option. Basically as it is says, if you don't want to compete on bidding on something with the others, and really want it, just click on the link to purchase it right away:

I do buy stuff over the internet but I always use bank transfers to pay so all the seller gets is my address and that's something everyone could look up in the phone book.

As Seiben said if you check the feedback rating eBay is reasonably safe. So far I've never had any problems.

I'm just thinking of all the other horrible stuff that passes through shatners body and out the other end that could be sold to the public. I mean Berman and Braga did that with Nemesis and the early enterprise seasons, so why not?

I really need that Kidney Stone to go with my Shatner collection. Already I have my William Shatner nose hair display, my William Shatner eye-booger figurines, and my William Shatner pocket lint earrings.

If it is a good sized stone, maybe I could get someone to carve an image of his face into it. There are people that work in small things like that, you know. Like the guys that write Chinese phrases on tiny grains of rice.

I think I am going to stick with autographs.

Okay, my original reaction was a big "huh"?

Now, I was recently informed that Mr. Shatner donated that stone money for a charity organization (Habitat for Humanity). All weirdness aside, that is nice of him to do that.
