Ensign Rosalyn Madeira

Personal Log - "Settling"

Stardate 9709.15

                    " What? ",her 11 year old voice rang out in the silence of the Maderia family living area. She looked curiously at her mother, then her father, almost showing a bit of hurt. Aurelia looked to her husband and then back at Rosie. Whatever composure Rosie had was slowly losing to her more emotional side.

                   " Say again? Did you just say I am not your daughter? Is that what I thought I heard?! ", Rosayln stood up, acting years beyond her tender age of 11. She began pacing, clasping her hands in a fashion that she always had. She had never been a very emotional child, though she did show it more than she really should...considering....

                " Rosie dear...you are our daughter. Your father and I raised you. So, in essence we are. We ju-", Rosalyn turned to them, desperately trying to fight back the tears that were welling in her eyes.

               " I am not your blood child...am I....", her voice cracking slightly. Aurelia looked down, and Jakub stood up.

              " We are your parents. It doesn't matter that you are not our blood child. We love you no matter what." He walked over to her, to embrace her. Rosalyn took a step back.

              " Who am I. I need to know who I am. I always knew I looked different, but I never thought I was that different. I mean, you always said that there was vulcan blood in our families line...but that isnt true...is it." She looked at them, with wide dark green eyes, waiting for the truth.

              " Your mother, she was unable to care for you. She had come to Earth to take care of some business, bad business. She was caught and put in a penal camp outside of Athens. While she was there it was discovered she was pregnant, with you. She gave birth there, and you were taken away from her and placed in Arcalina Orphanage. It was from there we adopted you..and we decided that it was best to change your name. You were called T'Lyrae by your mother.", her father looked at her as he

paused, " We were waiting for the appropriate time to tell you...and we did not expect that you could find out from an experiment at school."

              Rosalyn sat down, clasping her hands as most vulcans would, now knowing where she got that habit. She looked down, " I do not wish to be considered vulcan. I dont want to be called T'Lyrae and I want to be human, all human. I want my ears fixed as well."

             Jakub shook his head.," You shall not disifgure yourself. You are half vulcan, it is only fair you discover that side of you...do not turn away from it.....you can learn from it...........

        *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *           *

            Rosalyn moved through her new quarters on board the USS Republic. She carefully removed things from her bag, placing them on the bed. A serene smile passed over her face as she looked at the items she had taken out.

            The Ka'athrya lay there. She picked it up, running her long, delicate fingers over the strings. She had learned to play it on her visit to Vulcan. The sound it made was clear and beautiful. How glad she was that she had decided to go there, and try to learn about herself. They were so kind to her and taught her all they could. She still didnt know very much, but one day she would. She just needed the time and now, she had all the time and space in the universe.
