StarWars Jumps Shark.....

...or rather, I think the toy line has finally.

At a local Walmart - saw a "Luke Skywalker on his Chopper" action figure. Yep. Luke, in Trilogy fighter pilot gear (gray, orange white), lightsaber out, on a motorcycle.

Kids will probably go for this. Collectors may pick it up for the novelty factor. As a casual Wars fan, I was just standing there going "Eh?" I mean really, when was the last time you saw a motorcycle on SW?

So, has the SW toyline entered into overkill territory? I sure think it has.

 Debate, talk about the SW toy line that has grown and grown over these last five years, or let this sink to the bottom of the topic list. I just had to share my "Eh?" moment.

Another fine example of licensed overkill in an attempt to milk the public

and the sw saga for all it can get,::shakes head sadly, waiting to see a spok

and kirk action figurine dressed in rambo attire::.....

I'm sorry, but for me, Star Wars jumped the shark when they revealed that Leah was Luke's sister.

As a funny side note, my brother missed that fact when he saw "Return of the Jedi" twenty years ago, and almost swallowed his tounge when he heard it for the first time at the end of 'Sith'. He's probably the only person on the planet for whom that was a surprise ending.

Wow, you're going back a ways for jumping the shark, but, I can see why Lukes sister would be considered a jump.

For me, other then the motorcycle - Episode 1 and Episode 2 jumped the shark. I do like Episode 3, but that is in a class by itself.

I am an Original Trilogy casual fan, and just can't accept the pre-quels, even though I'm not dead set against them.

This is right up there with the action figures of super heros, SpiderMan, Xmen, and Captain america in side mech robot suits. They are already super heros!!!

The only times when Leia being Luke's sister really mattered to the plot were for the rescue of Luke from Cloud City and for Luke's final attack on Vader. Lucas probably wrote himself into a corner with the ending of Empire and then needed to keep it in. How else would you explain the whole lip-kiss thing?

I think George Lucas wrote into a lot of corners with regard to SW (again, not bashing, I enjoy SW). My theory has always been that the Original Trilogy came first, and Eps 1 - 3 were only written recently, existing previously as a very scant backstory springboard.

OK, fair enough, but it still doesn't explain 5 and 6. A New Hype (intentional spelling there) was such a phenomenal success that it was a given that he would generate sequels. What I think happened was Lucas had Luke dangling from the Cloud City weather vane, the Falcon having escaped, and said "Well, obviously the Falcon will rescue him, but how? Uh... Um... Well, if we... No, that won't work, so... Oh, I know, Luke and Leia are siblings! The kiss? Well, maybe no one will notice." and then he was stuck with maintaining this for Jedi.

Well, supposedly he had the entire story written from the beginning, although I'm sure there were parts that had to be rewritten (Han frozen in carbonate was written because Ford indicated that he didn't want to do VI). Which begs the question, what in the world happened between VI and I?

Willow, Indiana Jones, Howard the Duck, etc.

Back on topic for a quicky: alrighty. I came across these buffed up humanoid dogs, some kind of crack military team (German Shepard, Bulldog, Lab, etc.). Think GI Joe meets Werewolves.

Maybe it's just me with my Caitian leanings...but I couldn't help thinking "Why can't something cool like that be done with cats?"

One more: Bratz. Whoa. The Bratz are really eclipsing Barbie, judging by shelf space.

Am I the only one who kinda thinks the bratz toys look like little hookers? Seriously, if I saw a little girl wearing that much makeup and wearing those outfits I'd be disturbed. Not that barbie's normal either with her strangely formed body but at least she's a classy mutant!

Yeah I hang round Toys R Us a lot to buy toy guns and costumes for drunken univeristy outings...what of it?

 No worse then lurking around the toy aisles to see what toys are *cool* these days. Not that I..do that..or anything....

WesleyMD: Bratz has a toddler line? Eeek.

I am going with Images; the Bratz are extreme make up, but another factor is the huge eyes / heads. And there are LOADS of car types now. I remember Matchbox cornering the car market.

I also think the skateboarding thumb (name?) toy line is hysterical. I had one on my desk at work for a bit.
