"Laughter is the Best Medicine"

<begin>

There were a lot of pieces of technology Sam was comfortable with and many that he was accustomed to, he could look over any control layout for a vehicle and know what went where and did what. Yet of all the things a Starfleet officer encountered, Sam hated and had always been perplexed by the Tricorder. He was the pilot...not the scientist. But all of his knowledge and experience at flying was made pointless when the U.S.S. Hadrian's Wall NCC-1742-E-g was grounded. Now he found himself wandering in a cave staring at a palm sized device throwing random bits of information at him. Lo'Ami and Anari were bantering back and forth about the pattern of the tunnels, Sam was lost. However, Sam did know that there was a power source, and that that was their goal. He felt so utterly ridiculous, and figured if he stayed near Anari, who seemed to know what she was doing...he would not make an arse of himself.

The situation got more and more odd: shadows, motion sensitive lighting, etc. This was unusual, but it did not spook Sam the way it spooked the others. Finally they arrived at a door. Arcadia's Helm officer was suddenly...promoted/demoted?...to a security officer, ready with phaser in hand; this was another piece of technology he had never had the...er...pleasure of using outside of training. The encounter that followed was one of confused, dumbfounded conversation that took place between a bewildered Lo'Ami and a perplexed-looking Revin maintenance worker. Sam didn't really get anything out of the conversation until the Revin said this: "Oh, you want the trading office, a few meters back down the hall and to your left"...

As soon as the door closed, all of Sam's tension/confusion left him and he simply laughed out loud. He couldn't imagine what the others in the away team thought of him, but he didn't care. All of this mucking about, to find that the Revins were just as hung up on red tape as anyone else, the Humans, the Vogons and a whole host of other speices. Sam didn't know why he found the comment that funny, but he felt so relieved now. He lightheartedly suggested that they head to the trading office, which he knew would most likely direct him somewhere else, but he didn't care...it was funny.
