Glowing With Pride

“We’re running on our own power.”

Murray stood in Primary Engineering. The ship had just separated into MVAM and was about to activate the “tadar” that he had developed to try and track the Romulan vessel they were trying to follow.

“Good. What’s the status of the modifications?”

Crewman Dickinson consulted a console. “Almost complete. They’re just working on the tractor emitters now.”

“Tell them to quicken the pace so we can start looking for those Romulans.”

Murray walked from console to console, checking the readouts of the Primary Hull. Everything was running smoothly.

He smiled as an indicator lit up informing him that Crewman Williams had completed the modifications. He was rather proud of the tadar system, the tachyon detecting and ranging that he had pretty much invented off the top of his head. He remembered learning about the Klingon Civil War in middle school and Captain Picard’s tachyon detection grid that exposed cloaked Romulan ships. It was a short leap from that to the principles of radar to the technique that was now being used on all three sections of the Agincourt.

Murray looked up at Dickinson. “I’m going to the bridge. You’re in charge down here.”

Murray left Primary Engineering with a bounce in his step. He was going to see his idea and plan implemented, and he was certainly not going to do it from engineering.
