Personally, I agree. Voyager had alot of potential to be one of the best series. An interesting storyline, interesting characters. Ones that evolved and had flaws. Enterprise has a long road ahead of it. But in time it will get better...all fingers crossed.

::clears throat:: Ahem...

Back on topic, All the series are great, but personally I prefer the plain old original. I only wish it had gone on for a few more seasons, it is kinda short on episodes.   :)

Well, ens_smith, I didnt figure people were touchy about avatars. There is a wealth of them in the account info. Beleive me, if I knew each person had their own personal avatar, and didnt just fish one out of the pond, I wouldn't of done it. Chill.

What about The Animated Series?  I mean sure it was only on for a year and a half, but they had personal shields!  That was cool!

Actually, all the serieses pushed the envelope in some way, although DS9 and ENT pushed it in areas it shouldn't go.

TOS was one of the first science fiction shows to be taken seriously, albeit not at the time.  Before that you would have to go back to Dr. Who, which was more of a farce than anything else, and the Twilight Zone, which was really more of a drama than pure sci-fi.

Then TNG pushed the envelope again and proved that, with the right special effects budget, sci-fi could still be relevant.  Even people who poked fun at the Star Trek "geeks" realised that they were geeks themselves.

Voyager didn't really add much to the sci-fi genre, but it did at least push the Star Trek franchise into new areas, and reminded us that exploration absent some other tangible goal is inherently dangerous.

Then come the shows everyone loves to hate, DS9 and ENT.  DS9 proved that sci-fi fans don't want to see the same planet and plot over and over.  ENT proves that even die-hard Star Trek fans have our standards, and things like writing and budgets matter more than scenes with attractive girls in their underwear rubbing creams on each other - although not much more  ::):

Actually Reese and Vanroy bring up good points. I think although The Animated series has been ruled non-canon by the powers that be...it still should be considered in a poll.

Second..Many and I mean Many haven't seen this series. Perhaps it is available on some obscure cable. Perhaps not. A long time ago it was on the Sci-Fi channel or Cartoon Network if I recall.  Curious is it on tape?

(P.S.  I voted for DS9 hehe...sombody had to like it!!!)

I liked DS9, actually.  Well, most of the time.  There were definitely a few plots that made me question the writers sanity, imbibing habits, and/or possible illegal activities, but on the whole I thought they created a show with enough depth to stand without needing 'the aliens of the week' crutch.  The characters were 3-D, the cast played them with good tension, and unlike the other Trek series, there was actually an attempt at an overarching cohesive plot, which is great to keep people coming back week after week.  Now, it's not on the level of, say, Babylon 5, of course, but it's an attempt...

As I was not alive at the time of production of TOS, I have rarely seen it. However, the few episodes I have seen have been interesting, though, as one might put it, I've been spoiled by technology from the future, and it is hard to go back and see the old panels and the old visual effects and such. Not to mention the skin tight uniforms are just scary.   :)

TNG was the second ST series I saw. At first, I thought that Galaxy class starship was just ugly. Though over time it has grown on me, and I now consider it my 2nd fav. type of ship. The series had its ups and down, and my personal feeling is it got better after season 1, which is understandable since they needed to find each character's grove on the ship. It was good to see how diplomatic things were done in the Federation, which helps to understand how it works.

DS9 I don't have an opinion on. Unfortunetly, I never saw a single episode. Just yesterday, I rented the 1st Season Disk 1, so I've started watching, and I will watch all the way through, but untill I see it all, I'll refrain from giving an opinion.

Voyager is my fav, it was the series that got me addicted to ST and I've loved it ever since.

Enterprise is ok so far, it isn't like addicting, I could give it up at any point, but it will be interesting to see where it goes.

Good point about the Animated Series. I haven't been able to find it on tape, TV, cable, or anywhere except for a P2P program similar to Napster. I have a couple episodes on my computer from that, and I must say, it is interesting. The animation allowed them to go a little more wild with aliens, so instead of just pointed ears (Vulcans, Romulans) or a mustache (Klingons) they were able to create aliens twice as tall as the crew, with all sorts of odd features.   :)  It adds to the feeling of them actually being "alien", but then again I like the idea that Star Trek has kinda held to of a large number of species being humanoid.

All and all, I still like the original best. When you think about it, what they were able to do with their small budget and the limited technology of the time is reallly amazing. Star Trek has always pushed the envelope of special effects, and this is one of the great things I like about it.

hehe - the first series that I ever saw was TNG - in TNN (Before it was "The NEW" TNN :) )

But, Voyager has really started growing on me. Enterprise doesn't seem to be interesting enough...... yet. TOS, I always thought, was pretty interesting. But, it isn't my favorite. :P I have seen 4 episodes of DS9, and I never liked any of them..... I got tired of seeing Odo's love life on TV.   :D

So, I voted for TNG. It was the first that I saw, and for me, wins the "Best All Around" prize.

Sincerely,

"The Sunburned" HD

I voted for Voy, when I first saw TNG I loved it, but now Voyager is starting to surpass it in my liking, jusr because of the better plots, in every episode it's the same, they all want to get home badly, ect, but they mix it up nicely

Hey there,

I would agree with you...if Voyager had:

A) Held some consistency from episode to episode during it's first 6 seasons.

:) Not resulted to "sex appeal" to try and raise ratings

C) Not lost 47 shuttles, somehow had the parts to make them, oh wait...I did mention inconsitency, didn't I?

Yes on both, Boost!  lol.  ::loved the ears::

And they all tried to use sex appeal in various ways, eh?  The Original Series... well, we know what was going on there...  TNG had the first cat-suit incarnation, unfortunately, and took full advantage of the new 90's push up bras.  Voyager brought back the cat suit with a vengence.  Hmm, I didn't watch enough DS9 to comment there.  And Enterprise takes "gratuitous skin" to a whole new level.

I don't mind.  It's all in good fun.  I like to quote a good friend of mine frequently who says, "It's Star Trek, not Shakespeare."

TNG definitely went for the wildest sex appeal attempt, which was the men crewmembers walking around in those skin tight uniform dress'. Though, they phased them out pretty quick.

They all had good points.

TOS, as has been pointed out, did a lot with an amazingly small budget and very little faith from the powers

that be. I liked the idea in TOS that not all the aliens were humanoid. And while the acting is a bit on the well..

bad side, over all it has an awesome presence all its own.

TNG.. What can one say? They brought sci fi to the masses, and turned people who had no clue into Trekkies.

Yeah, there were some very formulaic plots, and there were times the characters were more annoying than

real, but it grows on you!! I missed a lot of episodes when it originally aired (imagine having to work!!) and so

I am catching them now. Even the ones I have seen before I see in new ways each time, and sometimes it just

surprises me what the real message was, or how I missed an amazing plot line.

DS9-I refused to watch this series when it originally aired cause I was so upset that they were going to take

TNG off the air for it. I started watching in season 3, and then later caught up on season 1. I still am missing

lots of episodes, but I catch them when I can. I also missed the last season because we had no UPN. I think

DS9 had lots more depth than TNG. They really plumbed some awesome storylines with this series. Yeah, there

were plotlines that were solely to try and keep people interested since they didn't have planets to visit and the

like. But we got to see lots of new things on the show, and the more I see of it, the more I like. I'll have to check

and see if the local video store is carrying it on DVD....

Voyager -- I probably shouldn't comment. I only saw the first season in its entirety. The rest of the series I

caught here and there, but I have never watched the final episode since I think it would spoil things for me.

I am waiting for it to start airing again locally or on TNN to see the whole thing, then I'll make an opinion. What

I have seen I liked, including the episode where they went back to 20th century Earth.

Enterprise-- Well, I was so excited to see a new series. ANd I was so disappointed to see Scott Bakula as the

Captain. He still can't act. I haven;t seen all the episodes but most of them, and I like the ideas. I have to

say they are really pushing the envelope. It's like since they decided to go back before TOS they have to do

something to catch our attention and make the special effects budget worthwhile so they are doing all this

help from the future stuff. I don't like it. I have really liked the ones where they meet up with races we know

little about for the first time. That's been really interesting. I am not sure I like this Sulabon storyline, the

continuing bad guys, but I'll keep watching and see how it shapes up.

Can't comment on the comic series, never got a chance to see it.
