Well, it impressed me....

Hey there,

Was reading on TrekToday about a new nine minute trailer the folks at BringBackKirk.com created and released yesterday. This was the second one they've made over the years.

First, I'll give a disclaimer. I'm not overly passionate about this topic, though I would love to see the original crew back in action again. I think Star Trek: Generations did a horrible disservice to them, not to mention creating a major question about Scotty's remarks in Relics. From remarks Ron D. Moore has made since, they were told by Berman Kirk had to die in this movie. It just seemed that again, instead of respecting the past there was an almost forced need to "kill it so we don't have to worry about it anymore." Kind of explains part of Voyager's consistency problems....

In any event, do I think it'd be nice to see James T. Kirk back? Might be a neat thing. Would I love to somehow, via a miracle, witness Shatner & Nimoy together again within the franchise? Gotta believe it. Do I think you'd get many fans who've turned away from the recent messes to come back for at least one episode/movie? Wouldn't doubt it.

Now...this thing they put together (click here to actually see the movie/teaser/download) is really amazing to me. I mean, this was done by three guys and a home CGI program. Not saying I like their little plot line, but it really does make you wonder...what could be done if they really wanted to do it? I was astonished by some of what I saw and after seeing it thought "Ya know, it could actually work if they tried."

Download/movie is a bit long but I'd highly recommend spending the time. Personally got the "medium" Windows Media Player version. I would also recommend reading their introduction on the site (see link above). In many ways, I think they make a valid argument. Personally, given the fact Star Trek: Enterprise has just this season started to really get good...might be a method of getting folks who left after the first/second season to give it another chance (saying it makes it into a fourth season, hopefully being announced May 20). I mean, given this entire "Temporal Cold War" subplot...::shrug::

Love to hear other comments. :P

Shatner was the guest star on an episode of "The Practice" last week (might be on this Sunday too).

He did a great job, but I don't think he's got any more turns as Kirk left in him. When an actor reaches a certain age, it's better for them to leave the roles of their youth alone.

Does anybody here remember Bette Davis' last appearance at the Academy Awards?

That was an absolutely fascinating movie. It was very well done and I'm impressed and amazed myself.

I also recommend anyone take the time to download it :P Just for the graphics alone.

Hey there,

Well, one of the things I think this movie shows is the simple possibilities of CGI today. I mean, a large part of me would love to see an updated version of TOS. This type of trailer shows that is possible and would be an amazing site. Just think of how "Doomsday Machine" would look with 2004 computer graphics.

We got to see a sample of that in the DS9 episode "Trials and Tribbilations". They had a newly rendered TOS Enterprise and station. Looked great!

Well I personally didn't like Kirk in Tos, to arrogant!

In his later yaers however he has done a fine job,

seems to have lost some arrogance, which to my surprise

and delight, has be replaced with a hidden sense of humor! ^_^

I'd love to see Kirk in another movie, along with Spock.

It is a shame that Bones can't be part of it, he was the best :(

doctor, and I think he could bring out Kirk and Spock's humor this time.

:: Mourns Passing of DeForrest Kelly :( ::

LOL, The big Giant Head on Third rock from the Sun was

I too was impressed with the movie. Maybe something with these plot twists could work as a finale to the entire Star Trek franchise, but that would be it. Considering the "producers" of this film were amateurs and hobbyists it is very impressive.

The scary thing, however, is it shows how close we are to not needing actors at all. We could just sample everything.

Getting demoted from Admiral will tend to do that.

Yeah, too true man, too true. lol. But te movie looks impressive, adnd I certainly would like to see old Jim and the gang back in Trek movies. It's just not the same seeing him as the spokesperson for the All Bran Fibre Challenge, instead of Capitan of the Enterprise.

Priceline is an online travel thingy like Travelocity and Expedia.

I haven't found it to give any better rates. Expedia is the best, IMO. But you always want to check around.

Expedia is generally the best unless Southwest flies into the airport that you're looking at. I generally save 20-40 dollars a flight through Southwest.com.

I do a fair amount of traveling, work and personal combined. Southwest IS usually the cheapest and one of the most efficient. I've never had a bad experience with them.

Not only that but other airlines operating routes competing with Southwest routes have to lower their faires to match too. Even non-Southwest customers benefit.
