Seiben

Overtime

Stifling a yawn, Seiben rubs his bloodshot eyes and walks out of the medical tent. A new shift of doctors took his place, merifully giving him and Dr. Somansky a much needed time to sleep, after a gruelling 20 hour shift. Bags sagged around his eyes, due to lack of sleep. Seiben, and his new friend walked towards the make-shift shelters until they found an empty one. Seiben asked the Security Officer of it was occupied. "No sir, this one is empty" he replied. "Good, then can this girl stay here then, until we can find something more permanent?" asked Seiben. "She lost her family in the attacks and has nowhere else to go"

The young officer smiled. "Of course, sir. That's not a problem at all" Seiben smiles, and kneels down to the girl. "You can stay here, until we find a more suitable place for you. Do you have any relatives, or any other friends you can stay with?" asks Seiben. "No relatives, but maybe I can stay with my friend's family. They're really nice people" she said. Seiben pats the girl's shoulder. "Wonderful.. any idea where they are?" "They vacationed to the West, a week ago,and should return in a day or two" the girl replied. "Okay, until then you can stay here". Seiben handed her some rations and water, and bade her a farewell. "Thanks for you help" the girl said. "Sure" said Seiben.

Now that that's been taken care of, Seiben walks over to a sluded area, and taps his comm badge. "Seiben to Republic, one to beam up" he said. Seconds later, he found himself back on the Republic. Seiben made his way to his quarters. Noting the absence of the human crew. Upon entering his quarters, Seiben takes a sonic shower, changes, eats some dinner and crawls into bed. Despite being totally exhausted, Seiben finds it hard to fall asleep. He still feels bad for the little girl losing her family. She only looked to be about 12 years old. That must really be hard for her. Brave little tyke.. thinks Seiben. She didn't cry in front of Seiben, or the other doctors, but Seiben can tell that she was distrougt just by looking at her. Seiben too came close to losing his family too in the Mars attack.

And with the Republic this far from Earth, there's no way for him to contact them. They've been gone for months now, and Seiben assumes the Republic is assumed lost, or at least missing. His family is probably worried sick, and maybe now thinking that their first born, and heir to the Seiben empire is dead. It's been months since he last saw his mother and sisters, back on Earth. With the incident on Rogesh, all plans to go back home shifted to rendering aid to the locals. Aid needed, due to an attack by neighbouring planet Rexxar, because of them. Seiben got out of bed, and replicated some warm milk, in the hopes that'll get them to sleep. He still feels bad that he couldn't detect the sattelite or find a better hiding place, but there's no use thinking of that now. The milk does it's trick, and Seiben starts to feel groggy. He walks over to bed, and crawls in, soon falling into a blissful deep sleep.
