Room Problems and Academies...

I would like to play in the academy. I am a new cadet and am looking to graduate. But the rooms are difficult for me to get into. Sometimes I can get in, as Fred gave me the tip on trying over and over. But the it tells me the rooms are "closed". Are there hours for the rooms to be open or are they down for maintenance?

If the latter, are there alternative places where STSF academies are being held?

Thanks

Hello,

Paramount has had some problems with their chat rooms the past month or so.  (In fact we had an entire thread on it that was pinned yesterday.  Since it seemed like it finally died down, I unpinned it then.  lol)

As a backup, I have built a functioning chat room into the STSF.net website and will be e-mailing members of the GM Council information on it for their review.  If they find it acceptable, it will be passed onto the rest of the GMs to use as a backup location in case of problems with the official rooms provided to us by Paramount.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

The best thing to do is get in touch with the individual GM and see what they want to do.  As we've been told this should be almost fixed...  I think most of us are hoping that the problem will be worked out.

Keep trying to access the rooms...  make sure you have the latest version of Java installed on your computer...  clear ya cache, ya cookies, etc.

Also try to access the room during some of our scheduled events.  I personally have never seen the room closed, but it may have been temporarily closed for maintainence.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Best regards,

Howdy Webmaster,

Curious if you would provide a link to where one can download java tools. My computer always has had a hard time handling the chatroom even before the server's illness...a software download would certainly help!

LOL...  well, since I put the site together, whenever there is questions about it or anything linked to it...  people assume I'm supposed to have all the answers.

If I don't know it...  I do the next best thing.  GUESS!    ;)

What is the molecular construction of an atom that would have the force in a nuclear explosion powerful enough to send a ship into warp speed without a warp drive?

Hey...  I never said I had CORRECT answers.  I just said I had answers.  ;)

Take everything you read online with a grain of salt.  hehe

What am I supposed to be downloading? There's a ton of files here. Should I look for something specific?

My browsers are all the most recent possible, though.

If you use Internet Explorer 5x or above, I am fairly certain that the Java Virtual Machine comes with your computer. Try to get into the Startrek.com Community Holodeck, and if it lets you in, then you don't have anything to download.

If it doesn't, then go to http://java.sun.com/getjava/installer.html , and sit there for a little while, hitting "Yes" to several questions pop-ups that occur. After a while, either

(A) The Java website will get tired of asking you questions and let you have the Java Virtual Machine, or

(:o It'll run out of questions and give it too you.

Really, it is just clarifying that you agree to download the JVM files, so don't sweat about it if those Permission to Download pop-ups come up on that website.... just make sure that if they come up on other websites, you read the info on them, and make sure that they come from a reliable source. (The best way of doing this is checking Certificates).

Anyway, Good luck!

:: clears throat ::

Before you go downloading anything.... try the Holodeck again. For all of us now, it's working. At least, I think all of us.
