Permission?!

A Joint Log by Daise'Khre'Riov Var'lon tr'Vatrix and Khre'Riov L'haiy ira-Rext'Vatrix

L’haiy waited for hours for Var’lon to return from his offices when she thought she heard his flitter approach and land a few siuren ago. However, after a bit of time not hearing anyone enter the residence, decided she must have been mistaken. It must have just been a courier vehicle either making a delivery or leaving important missives for Var’lon to read upon his return.

They had spent most of their time alone on his ship, but after nearly a week that changed drastically. The demands upon Var’lon’s time had been numerous and they barely had time to see much less speak to each other these last few days other than to sleep.

She had a few errands to run and also wanted to stop by the Galae Medical Facility where Laehval had been secretly hidden away, hopefully recovering now that she had awoken. Having sent word to Derv’ tr’Shalor of her intentions, he had come back to question if the trip were necessary. What had happened next, however, had angered her a bit over the matter. After acknowledging she would take into accord the suggestions of the security team after what had happened on her last visit to the facility, he had actually said he needed to get tr’Vatrix’s ‘permission’ first.

Permission? Permission!? As if she were na of a rank or mind to be able to attend to business on her own. He was actually dictating to her that she needed permission? And exactly where had that order came from? Was she to become a th’ann in her own home? Evidently tr’Shalor thought so. She tried to calm her anger over the matter, telling herself that he was most likely taking Var’lon’s orders to protect her just a bit too literally. Perhaps she needed to shed these robes and put the uniform back on to have her orders followed, she may be on leave, but she was still a Khre’Riov.

However, she had been about ready to tell Var’lon that she was ready to give up her ship to stay here with him on ch’Rihan and take care of their son. This restriction however, made her worry if she could really do it without feeling too confined, too restricted, chafing to be free and the danger of becoming resentful over it. As it was, when they had been on the ship, several times she had went to the HIC, and brought up images of her oira and chambers, so she felt more comfortable and able to get some rest. Na, if she was to have tr’Shalor as her new shadow, having just been filled in about the permanent loss of tr’Guard, she swore he was to be just that, a shadow, na her jailor..

After the attempted abduction the last time she had went to the hospital, she had agreed to listen more to the security team, she did owe them her life, however she had na expected them to be so restrictive. She heard boots coming back down the corridor, and turned to meet the arriving messenger, expecting to see tr’Shalor back, “And another thing,’ as she turned, pointing a finger at him, only to come face to face with Var’lon.

He smiled as he entered the room happy to be done with the exceedingly difficult day and to be home once again with his family. “Yes?” The tone of his voice showed amusement as he realized she had not quite expected him yet.

As she stood there pointing a finger at him, “Ie. Well, ie, au are ‘na’ tr’Shalor. And lucky for au that au are not!” She shook the finger at him a few times as if to scold him as she crossed over to stand before him, “Why do the guards deign to keep me as nothing but a prisoner in our own home? I wished to run some errands, and to visit one of my crewmen, and was told that I needed “Permission!! Permission!? Fvadt!”

The amused look disappeared a moment as he entered the room and started removing his jacket. “You have never needed permission to do anything.” He paused a moment as he sat to remove his boots. “I’m sure there must be some sort of misunderstanding. I said earlier I wanted to be informed if you would be visiting your ‘pet Engineer’ and that if you did go, that our child remained here where he could be safe. Au know I do not care much for the situation there with her.”

“Well, that’s na how it came out. I was waiting for au to return home, and when I thought au would be later than expected, I figured I’d use the time to take the child to see the medics for a check up, as well as check on Laehval while I was at the medical facility. As soon as I mentioned it to tr’Shalor, he was telling me he had to check with au first. I just need to know e’lev, is this how it will be from now on? Will I have to ask before I can do anything? I have already told au I would abide by your decisions in these matters, and I know that au are trying to protect me, but I need to know where I stand here as well. I jol au Var’lon and will obey your decisions, I may na like them, but I will. Just don’t expect me to be happy about it, if I’m to be locked away under house arrest.”

“You never have and never will need my ‘permission’ to do anything. You seem to have done just fine for yourself so far over the last several years and don’t need me to dictate your day-to-day actions. I want my wife to stand at my side... not behind me.” He stood up after tossing the boots in the corner and put his arms around her. “I will speak to tr’Shalor so he understands more clearly my intentions. I wanted to be notified if you went to see her, but it is your choice if you do or don’t. I have every faith in them and you to remain safe.”

Burying her head against his chest, she let out a sigh of relief and put her arms around him as well, “Hann’yyo e’lev,” as she leaned into him. “I was afraid I was to be a prisoner, without the physical shackles, a way for those above us to control the ‘nanogene clone’ as I’ve heard some refer to me. If it is alright then, I’d like to take Val’ron for his checkup in the morning, then go over to see Laehval. If au would like to come to the appointment with me, then au could take him to au office to show him off? Then we would both would know that he is where he will be safe.”

“I’ll be happy to come and everyone has wanted to see him, so that plan should work.” He paused a moment before continuing. “I think you understand my intentions now. So no more talk about prisoners, especially in our very home. Now... what shall we do about dinner?” Var’lon was ready to change the topic to something more pleasant. He knew she still had insecurities to deal with and hopefully this was one more that could be quickly put to rest so they could move on with their lives.

“ Ie Rekkhai,” grinning up at him, “ I know the cook has prepared herbed hlai for dinner this evening along with roasted vegetables, it smelled most pleasing when I was down in the kitchen earlier. I also, well, I knew you were having a bad week, so I made you one of your favorite lehe'jhme pies for desert. I thought we could take that upstairs or better yet, down to the beach for a quick picnic. Nemeria can keep an eye on the baby while he sleeps, while we tend to..... dessert,” as she grinned back at him.

He poked her lightly as she used the ‘forbidden’ word while they were not at work. “You like to try and get yourself into trouble I see. However that sounds like a great plan to me.” The amused tone returned to his voice once again. “Lead the way.”
