Hi there,

Generally most Academy GMs allow for creativity from simmers.  The purpose of the Academy simulations centers around training of an individual trainer, wheras in an advanced sim the simulations center more around the entire group and the current plot.  When scanning something try to keep the mission brief and the current plot in mind when revealing your results.  If the results are plot alterting, then it would be best to check with the CO in Private Message to see if it's acceptable.

For example:

Example 1:

::scanning the area:: Sir, there appears to be twelve lifeforms present on this deck.  Please proceed with caution.

In most games this would be acceptable.  (unless, of course, it was stated somewhere in the plot that there were no lifesigns on the ship  :) )

Example 2:

::scanning the area:: Sir, I'm reading twelve Borg lifesigns coming our way!

This would probably be unacceptable in most academy games unless cleared by the Commanding GM because of its plot-altering characteristics.

Hope this helps. :)

Welcome to the STSF.  Yours is a very good question and it's one I talk to cadets about after every game.

You're there to help build the story, not to just react to what the GMs say is happening.  Not only is it acceptable, it's desired for you to make up what the scan reveals, providide as Grom Vik said, that's it's consistant with what's happened in the sim up to that point.

In the Starfleet Academy folder, I've posted several "Tips From The Moose".  Tip #2, called "Play With What's In Your Pocket" is all about this point.

Check it out and keep those questions coming. : )  Welcome again.

Now for the REAL question:  How are we supposed to fit an entire deck into our desktop scanners?  Even if you have Adobe Acrobat it's a bit hard to convert a deck to a .pdf file.

One card at a time    (or maybe two)

Come to think of it, there ARE 12 people in a deck - 4 Kings, 4 Queens, 4 Jacks!
