Those we could not save

Computer, please take another dictation. You will have to bear with me as I am not sure how to word my deepest regrets. We found a cure for this horrble disease inflicted on the Exeter crew and ours, however I am afraid it may have been too late. Quite a few of those on the Exeter have passed away. It's dreadful, just dreadful, to think I had the cure in my hands the whole time. I wasted so much time on research, trial and error, and doctor know-how. I had a notion it was probably going to be basic, why did I ignore my instincts? How foolish of me.

 

Forgive my ramblings, dear. I am just very upset. I feel it should be my duty to write letters of condolence to the families of those who lost a dear one on the Exeter. I feel so responsible for not helping them sooner. Some died right before my eyes and I was holding the cure!

 

I know my profession trains a body for such circumstances as these, but for this tragedy I was not prepared. I would love to personally go to each family and offer my deepest regrets. I know that is impossible. So, I will submit my draft to Doctor Mele this afternoon.

 

 

It is with great sorrow and regret that I write to say how deeply I sympathize with you in the sad loss of your loved one. I find it difficult to do this however because I feel that words are so cheap at such a time. The crew was inflicted with a disease unknown to the fleet at the time. We still know very little about the disease, except that it responds to a very basic natural element. On a personal note, I saw to the comfort of those inflicted an can assure you that your family members were treated with the utmost of respect and loving care, as if they were my very own. Their pain inflicted me deeply and I saw to its easement to the best of our abilities.

 

For us it remains to carry on, following the Exeter Crew personnel example in exploration and while we continue our missions, we trust that God's strength may come to you to help you in your bitter loss. May God be with you in your sad bereavement. Details of the cure can be obtained at Starfleet headquarters on Earth. Your loved ones personal effects can also be obtained from said same.
