Princess Amanda looked out the castle tower. She had grown up in the castle and knew all the secrets and the hidden doors and so far had been able to keep herself and her  laides in waiting away from the strangers that had come to their lands.   She had watched in horror from behind a curtain in the grand hall, when the strangers brought two of the kitchen maids before the lead monster and they beheaded them for failing to cooperate with their lord. She had prayed to the gods to not let her faint and bit

her lip from trying not to mutter a sound and disclose her  hiding place.  What she was not aware of, was the jewels in the curtain contained high levels of an element that kept her lifefrom from being scanned.  It was hours before she was able to move out from the curtain undetected and escaped through the hidden  passageway behind one of the  fireplaces.   Her task had been to collect page attire so that she and her ladies could go among the country side undetected.

The passage was dark and steep.  the walls were covered with rich thick moss.  She still shuddered whenever a furry creature graced the top of her   slipper.   Nausea and fear kept trying to over take her senses.  Finally she reached the end of the passage.  she moved a piece of stone, to look into the room.  As the brick grated shut, the grating noise of the stone opened a crack wide  enough for her to slide through.  Melody pulled her into the room, and quickly closed the panel.

"M'lady, you appear as if you have seen a ghost."  Melody said as she took the tunics from her lady's arms.

"Well, we may have a few ghosts, Yenti and Tresa were beheaded for not disclousing where we  went."   guilt over the loss of lives   caused a tear finally to try to come, but she had no time for tears.

"We haven't much time .  Quickly let's change.  Pentha has come back with supplies, but  tells  me that more of the strangers had arrived. If we do not hurry m'lady  you may end up as concubine of the ungodly. " Melody stated as she urged those around her to change.

Dressed in the rages of the pages, Melody began to cut off the long braids of the ladies in waiting.  Amanda placed her hand on her long tresses.   Melody held up the sharp knife  and the cool blade against Amanda's neck made her shiver.  Melody paused.

"Be on with it lass,  he his dead and can not touch the locks again. ' Amanda closed her eyes as she felt the weight of her hair suddenly grow less.

"I am sorry m'lady." Melody whispered in her ear.

"I am to numb to feel anything at the moment Melody. Come let us take our flight. "  She motioned to the small portal.

"I just wish there was a less smelly way out."  Pentha mumbled.

"Would ye rather bed our guest? " Melody quipped back.

"Nay, the compost chute has a better smell than the warped ones."  Pentha was quick  to respond.

One by one, the 6 women entered the slimy chute and landed very ungracefully in the castle's compost.  In the dark, they slipped one by one into the forrest.
