Lt. Cmdr. Arphazad Lo'Ami took leave of Ensign T'vin and walked briskly down the hall. He had just done a cursory job of checking up on the science labs. They were having some problems understanding plant genetics. Ens. Chase was trying to cross-breed plants just for the fun of it. Lo'Ami really didn't see the scientific value of it, but, as every professional scientist knows, a certain part of the process is just play... going wherever your mind takes you, and letting the important discoveries flow from unexpected results. The vagueries of plant genetics were just a minor obstacle on the road to knowledge, not to mention a completely insignificant problem compared to the destruction of all life in the universe. It was hard to imagine that all of the people around him, save five others, thought that he had just come back from a relaxing vacation on Risa. To them, the universe was still a playground teeming with life, unexplored regions, and new things to learn, and that was all fine with Lo'Ami.

 

He arrived in his quarters, promptly removed his uniform, showered, put on sleep clothes, and tucked under the covers. And, for the first time in what seemed like weeks, he had pleasant dreams.
