“Computer open duty log and begin recording…

Just three days since launch and we’ve already had our orders changed. The initial orders were to proceed to Bolaris where we would participate in some sort of diplomatic ceremony. Instead I have been told that another ship has been dispatched to the Bolian homeworld and we are to proceed immediately to Starbase 234, on the edge of the former Romulan neutral zone. According to the orders from Starfleet Head Quarters, we are to stop briefly to pick up a dozen or so marines that are being reassigned from various ships. Looking at the crew manifest, I believe that this will officially max out our marine battalion.

So far things have been running fairly smoothly. There haven’t been any significant problems, which is a very good thing. One thing that I learned from commanding the Jerusalem for a couple years is that crew cohesion is a wonderful asset. To be honest, I imagined great tension amongst the crew, especially between Security and the Marines. Having been a security officer myself, I can understand the possible resentment that might stir up between the two departments. Nevertheless, things have been functioning smoothly. The real test will come when the two are forced to work along side one another.

That’s all I have for now. Computer, close log and save.”
