Personal Log

This is my first log since our return to the 24th Century Alpha Quadrant on 0408.24 almost 4 months ago. A lot has happened during those months. De-briefings, banquets, and ceremonies culminating with Time Magazine naming the USS Lakota survivors as Crew of the Year and my picture as the ranking survivor (Messner was still on his... honeymoon) next to Admiral Huff on the front cover. With myself at the onset of Pon Farr what I needed was the solitude of Vulcan.

With that accomplished I returned to San Francisco to complete my debriefing. Messner was still honeymooning with BcH. I ran into Daryus intermittently at the Red Star Nightclub where I learned he and Angie5 were visiting New Orleans. I understand Random and Presley returned to the Trill home world. Garnoopy wrote and published a song about our voyage sounding remotely like the ancient Earth song "Bilbo Baggins". Probably the most interesting leave was had by Koralev who, to escape an almost certain court martial surrounding his actions in "sanitizing" the crew of renegade Klingons employed by the House of Duras, was not only granted asylum by Councilman Konatlh but also a position in the Klingon Defense Forces.

Koralev is a competent engineer and had risen in rank to literally a few minutes time in rank beneath me. The logic of starting over as a Lagh in the KDF escaped me, especially given Koralev's past troubled relations with Klingons. However, it is not my role to judge, as Koralev was not under my command at the time. What was baffling to all, however, was that he not only graduated to become the first non-Klingon to pass the Second Rite of Ascension, thus becoming a "Klingon" Warrior, but is also Konatlh's adopted son. Interesting turn of events as I am now in charge of a minor celebrity among the Klingons who is also part of the ruling class.

Were he not weakened from the Rite I would have reminded him at the re-launching banquet that, despite his unusual status, he is still under my supervision. Such had to wait, however, as a fight broke out in the banquet hall involving everyone except Koralev and myself. We made small talk as I caught a d'k tahg intended for someone else. It is a good dagger if I can only find a suitable holster for it.

Shortly after the banquet we settled in on our new ship, again. Before I could put Engineering to work examining the several new enhancements and upgrades the senior officers were called to the Meh to receive our first briefing. The temporal device acquired from the 29th Century time-ship was still intact, although the flux capacitor to channel the 1.21 Gigowatts required for time travel has been removed. Both the Klingon High Council and the Federation Council intend to use the re-fitted Qob-Lakota as a test bed for a new propulsion system using this device, and it is Engineering's job to make the thing work.
